Mom to Amya Mirica Hope

September 1, 2011 – September 3, 2011

Zurich, Switzerland

After being unsuccessful at becoming pregnant naturally, we conceived in our first round of IVF, after implanting one egg, which subsequently split and graced us with expecting identical twin girls.

During our 19-week scan, we were told that one of our twins showed abnormalities in her kidneys. After our scan, the girls got fed up being called ‘twin 1’ and ‘twin 2’ and we chose Angel cards to give them names in utero. Since then, we referred to them as Passion and Hope – very synchronistic, as twin 2 chose Hope and she was the one dealing with her malformed kidneys.

Mom to Mattingly Lynn

Died October 2, 2009

Kansas City, Missouri

I found out very early that I was pregnant, about 4 weeks. I just woke up one morning and had a feeling; took a test and it was positive!  My husband was scared to death when I told him, but we both started planning about the nugget growing inside of me. I had to scare my husband even more by telling him all the jokes I’d made in the past about having two little blonde girls, was more than a dream of mine – my father was a twin as well as my maternal grandfather. We had a high chance of multiples. [Read more…]

Mother of Sam Polley

October 23rd, 2010 – October 24th, 2010

Cape Town, South Africa

Saturday the 23rd October 2010 started as any other day. I set off to my much awaited baby shower that morning and friends marvelled as they felt both babies moving around. I left the baby shower and went home to collect the cribs to take back to my parents house. I had a rest and when I got up late afternoon, I felt very restless and uncomfortable. I lay on the couch for a bit, feeling frustrated, tired and like I had had enough! I decided to have a bath. As I got out of the bath, I had a really strong contraction which caused my whole stomach to tense. So much so that I couldn’t bend down and pick stuff up off the floor.  [Read more…]

Mom to Aubre Lynn and Colton Scott

Miscarried June 23rd, 2011 and June 24th, 2011

Washington/Prosperity, Pennsylvania

Where to start? Well, my husband (Scott) and I tried for 3 years to conceive on our own. Finally, we went and saw a fertility specialist. Long story short we conceived on our 1st try! We both were very excited. My fertility Dr. told me with what my blood count was at he was thinking it was multiples. We ended up conceiving twins. We both were very excited;  matter of fact our whole family was excited. I was doing great, feeling great and all of the ultrasounds were great. We had an ultrasound on June 22nd, 2011 (I was 18 weeks 1 day). Both babies were very active and moving around a lot. [Read more…]

Mom to Boe
April 22nd, 2010
Huntington Beach, California
229 days.  That is how long I carried my precious baby boys.  My husband and I found out 14 weeks into our 2nd pregnancy that I was carrying spontaneous triplet boys.  It was a set of identical twins and a singleton.  A,B and C; then, once we found out all 3 were boys, Adler, Boe and Cameron.  My pregnancy was a pretty easy one, all things considered.  I had weekly doctor’s visits and always got good reports.  Boe was always a bit smaller, but the doctor said he was still within normal range, and it is to be expected that there will be a smaller one in a multiple pregnancy.

Mom to Jack Marshall Haller

The experience of carrying twins for six months had been extremely exciting for me.  Jack and Kate already weighed about one pound each and were starting to share their personalities in ultrasound videos. Kate was the athletic one and Jack liked to pose for perfect profile photos. They already had fingernails, hair and eyebrows. They could grip their hands, kick their feet, suck their thumbs and hear our voices. Just before flying to China for a brief work trip, my husband bought a belly band so he could place headphones on my tummy to share music with them.

While he was away, I had a routine doctor appointment. The visit started with finding their heartbeats like all the times before.  First Kate’s……….then Jack’s……..wait no, that’s mine……..Kate’s again……mine…….then nothing. The doctor took an ultrasound and the moment Jack appeared, it was clear that something was wrong. Kate nudged him a little and his tiny limp body moved, but he was no longer with us.

I didn’t think I would ever write about this experience, for more than one reason. One, I didn’t even think I would lose a child, that Mark and I would lose a child. (not that anyone ever does) Then after losing a child I didn’t think I would ever be able to write about their “birth story.”  I worked on this for a long time, I decided not to include pictures though. I have the images in my mind. They will be. there. f-o-r-e-v-e-r. We have a few prints in a special place but I think words are enough for this post.

Given my irregular cycle, diffident personality and generally low expectations, I thought it would take some time, perhaps a year, before we would get pregnant. It happened the first cycle. Both times. Aside from my stint on a jury, my first pregnancy was uneventful. My second pregnancy was anything but.

It all began at my cousins wedding; My sister in law was about 20 weeks pregnant and showing beautifully. My Fiancée Tyler immediately fell in love with her growing belly and seemed to cater to her every need that night. It didn’t come to much shock when he said that next day that he was ready to be a dad. Three weeks later, sure enough I saw those two pink lines. We were ecstatic!!

Mom to Logan Ray Gill
Stillborn October 6th, 2008
Baytown, Texas
I am a mother and I have two children.
After a very long, disappointing journey and over six years trying to get pregnant, my husband and I turned to IVF as our last hope and it worked!  On March 10, 2008 we found out we were having TWINS.  We had known there was a chance, but still weren’t really expecting that.  Now, not only were we going to have the baby we’d always dreamed of and become a real family, we were going to have TWO babies.  It was shocking to say the least, but I fell in love with both babies instantly.  I went to my many appointments and watched them on the ultrasound screen and moment by moment, image by image, I fell deeper in love.  I already loved them more than I could imagine.   We found out we were having a boy and a girl and we were elated.  We named them Logan Ray and Ella Ann.  Oh how excited we were (and scared)!  I couldn’t wait for them to get here so I could have them in my arms.  I couldn’t imagine what it would feel like to have them here, to actually BE a mother like I’d dreamed and hoped for so very long, to know what that felt like.

Mom to Madison Ann

I found out I was pregnant in April 2007. My pregnancy was going fine and had a lot of morning sickness and heartburn. I had my twelve week appointment and everything was fine. I had my 16 week appointment and was measuring larger.  My Doctor said either I was farther along or their were more than one. I knew I could not be farther along since I got pregnant on the pill.

I had an ultrasound at 18 weeks and it was twin girls.  My family doctor referred me to an OB because of the higher risk of c-section with twins. I finally meet with my new OB at 23 weeks and 5 days. That is when I first heard Baby A has a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. This is when the Diaphragm does not close off allowing intestines ,spleen, liver and kidneys to be in the chest cavity where the lungs should be.  It also pushes the heart over causing less growth in the other lung.

In April of 2007, my husband Mark and I found out that we were expecting triplets.  To say we were shocked is an understatement but after spending two years trying to get pregnant, we quickly adjusted to the idea of welcoming three new babies into our family and started preparing for life with triplets. We found out we were expecting two girls and a boy and could not have been happier.  I could not wait to dress my girls in matching outfits and have a “Momma’s boy.”  Unfortunately, by the time I was 18 weeks pregnant, the signs of preterm labor had already begun and I was admitted to the hospital for the remainder of my pregnancy.  I was put on strict hospital bedrest and although we knew that things were very risky, as the weeks passed and we were able to keep my labor from progressing we began to become hopeful again.
