Angel #2 lost at six weeks and four days on February 11th, 2012

I should begin by telling you, admittedly, that up until this point in my life, I was a pretty lucky girl.

I came from a happy, nuclear family. I always had a small circle of great friends. I was fortunate to attend college, graduate in four (largely) uneventful years, and immediately find a teaching job while some of my peers were scrambling. I met my soul mate in college (although we knew one another in high school, but we hated each other then–another story for another blog post) and we had a nice, June wedding. During this time, I had misfortune in only one area–my health. Being overweight had been an attribute of mine for as long as I could remember. I went on diet after diet, but I would always lose a few pounds and then simply give up. I made excuses such as “It’s too close to the holidays”, or “I’m just too busy right now,” but the simple fact of the matter was that I simply lacked the desire to do it. It just wasn’t there. I liked to eat, and I hated to exercise–I knew I needed to do something, but I simply did nothing. It kind of pains me to admit that. [Read more…]

Born sleeping January 2, 2010

Albuquerque, New Mexico

In 2007 I found out I was unexpectedly pregnant. It definitely wasn’t planned, but I was immediately very excited from the time I saw those two pink lines! I was on cloud 9 because all I ever wanted was to be a mommy. My boyfriend at the time was living out of town so he decided he would move to where I live and we would get an apartment and start our little family. We started thinking of names for our baby. My boyfriend thought of Doroteo for a little boy, named after his grandfather, who was his main father figure and who he actually called dad rather than grandpa. I agreed that if we have a boy he would be named Doroteo and I decided I liked Imalda for a girl. I started being very cautious of everything I ate, drank, I didn’t lift heavy things, I took my prenatal vitamins every day. I made sure to take care of my baby so I could have a healthy little boy or girl. [Read more…]

I am the face of Thanatophoric Dysplasia and Early Miscarriage

It’s so difficult to share the story of loss.  No words seem to do it justice.  Here’s my attempt.

In the fall of 2010 we learned I was pregnant after nine months of trying for our second child. The pregnancy progressed just as nicely as the first. But, 19 weeks into our pregnancy, everything changed. [Read more…]

Lily Natalie’s story:

Ever since I knew the meaning of being a mother, I knew that was what I wanted to be. Even my chosen career path as a teacher involves me utilising my maternal feelings in guiding students through their education. As cousins, friends’ babies and other family members were born, I knew that, even at the age of 11, the feeling of a newborn baby in my arms was just…right. I dreamed, imagined, visualised myself holding a baby, mothering a baby, raising a tiny life. [Read more…]

“Baby Angel” lost at 9 weeks

My husband and I went to our infertility specialist after 4 years of marriage and struggling to become parents. I was diagnosed with PCOS. We decided on an IUI and were pleasantly surprised to find out we were pregnant on the first try! We were over the moon and I was very cautious. When we went in for our first ultrasound we saw there was no heartbeat, and I naturally miscarried a week later. It was devastating. [Read more…]

I was 15 when I found out I was pregnant for the first time. I didn’t believe it when my doctor told me, I even  told her it was impossible.  I had suffered ovarian cysts for some time and I honestly didn’t think I would ever be able to conceive.  I was also bleeding while my Dr told me from what I believed to be my period. My Dr ordered another urine sample pregnancy test and it came back positive again.  My boyfriend was 21, we were scared. My Dr gave me the advice to have an abortion and I refused. I went home and took it easy waiting for the bleeding to stop. The bleeding would calm when I was laying  down but once I sat up I would bleed again. At 10 weeks I had a huge bleeding spell and went to the ER. I had a very hard time getting the staff to stop suggesting a D&C. I had an ultrasound that showed I had a very tilted uterus and surprise I had TWINS. Shock set it very quickly. I had always dreamed of having twins but how on earth could I have two babies at my age?

My name is Rachel and my husband, Joshua, and I have been married since March 2009. I am 27 and my husband is 30; he wanted to start having a family right away, stating that he was “getting old” This from a man who runs circles around my 4 year old nephew. I was finally ready to begin trying in October 2010. My cycles were infrequent and far between, so my doctor started me on Clomid to make me ovulate after a few months of no success. [Read more…]

My name is Samantha and I am a 33 year old woman who has had one live birth and has suffered 6 miscarriages.  My husband and I were married in August of 2006 and decided we wanted to try and have children right away.  We found out in November that were pregnant and were so excited.  We decided to tell our families right away.  They were all so excited, as were we.  We had no idea what to expect, but things were going well.  I started having some spotting just after Christmas, and was very scared by what was going on.  I went to the ER with my husband and they said that it did not look good.  By now I was having heavy bleeding and spotting.  I ended up miscarrying our first child at 7 weeks.  It was December 31, 2006.  Sadly as I was in one hospital miscarrying, my niece was being born in another.   [Read more…]

I can remember each moment like it was yesterday – each one of the five times that we were told our pregnancy was over.

In September 2007 we began our journey to expand our family.  We got pregnant right away and I was ecstatic.  We told everyone we knew.  There was nothing that compared to our excitement.  But that first pregnancy ended at 6 short weeks.  What began as spotting continued through to the full miscarriage process and my heart was completely broken. I always knew I wanted children, but I didn’t seriously think about it until I got married to my high school sweetheart in June 2006, at age 20. Then suddenly it was like a lightbulb went on and I knew that I just wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. I knew it was best for me to finish college first, but it was a big struggle for me to have to wait awhile to try to have a baby. By early 2007 we had stopped using any contraception, and in June 2007 I found out that I was pregnant. [Read more…]

2005 was a big year for me, I met the man who would become my husband and in October we found out we were expecting.  We had not planned it, but we were both thrilled.  Of course, I told everyone, family, friends, co-workers right away.  A couple of weeks later, in the morning as I was brushing my teeth I noticed I was bleeding.  I panicked, and called my doctor, who was really nonchalant.  He told me if I was having a miscarriage there was nothing he could do, and to just rest with my feet up.  It would be like having a bad period.  My husband took me to the emergency room.  [Read more…]

When my cousin lost her baby boy in June 2008 due to placental abruption at 6 months into her pregnancy our whole family grieved for her loss. I couldn’t imagine how this hit us so close to home and how anybody could get through it. I gave my cousin a book to help her grieve through her unimaginable loss. Little did I know that almost exactly 2 years to the month my cousin lost her little boy, she would giving that book back to me to read, as I would be going through my own pregnancy loss in June of 2010.  [Read more…]

Mom to 4 angles due to miscarriage

July 2000 (7wks), October 2001 (11 1/2 weeks), August 2003 (5 weeks), August 2007 (6weeks)

I never knew if I could get pregnant.  I knew I had endometriosis. I used to tell people I did not know if we wanted children, but oh, we wanted a baby so bad.  Imagine my surprise when I was pregnant just weeks after our wedding.  However, deep down, I knew immediately something wasn’t right. At the time there really wasn’t a way to know- no pain or anything. It was just a feeling.  About a week after I found out I was pregnant I began spotting. I was living in a new town and did not have a doctor but I called one to make an appointment.  I was told it was normal to spot. It didn’t feel normal, but noboday seemed to care.  Of course, it would not have mattered even if I could have seen the doctor.  I spotted for well over a week, maybe two.  One rainy, late summer morning I woke up and knew that was it.  I knew that day would be the end of our pregnancy.  I asked my husband to look up directions to the nearest ER and we drove.  I screamed and cried as it all came to end. I shook with fear and sadness so deep I thought I would never escape.

Kaci

Mom to Laron Clay

April 16th, 2011

Coalgate, Oklahoma

Our story begins in February 2010.

For as long as I can remember, one of the most important things I have wanted in my life was to be a mom. In February of 2010 I was told at my yearly appointment that in order to get pregnant I would have to get on medication. I accepted this and decided that eventually when we were ready I would get on the medicine and hopefully not have a difficult time getting pregnant. After that appointment I received notice that my pap smear had returned abnormal and I needed to come in for the cells to be checked. I returned to the doctor in May only to discover that the cells were between grades 1 and 2 dysplasia. My doctor informed me that he wanted to remove the cells in order to keep them from becoming cancerous and an appointment was set up for April.

I am a mother of a 2 year old son, so I feel  guilty writing about my losses as I already have a living child, but I have come to learn that any loss is painful so I am here to share my story.  My husband and I decided that it seemed like the right time to start trying around June of 2010.  We had no issues with our son so we assumed this would be a breeze and I was, at the time, uneducated and unaware of any situation involving any kind of pregnancy loss.  However, that changed all too quickly.  [Read more…]

My husband and I will celebrate our 10 year anniversary in January. Our first year together we lived through 2 miscarriages. A missed miscarriage at 10 weeks in May, and another miscarriage in November at 6 weeks. We were worried that we would not be able to have children so we asked for tests to find out what was happening. I was diagnosed as having a MTHFR mutation and lupus anticoagulant disorder. We were told a daily shot of heparin should prevent any further problems. We were terrified to try again… so we waited, and then 4 years later and lots of needles in my belly, we had our first child. Sophia was born healthy and perfect after the longest 9 months I could imagine. Another 4 years and a switch to Lovenox, we had our second little girl, Polly.
