Mom to Mila Rose

My husband and I had been married for two years. My grandfather had passed away shortly after our anniversary, and my husband and I decided that we wanted to try and start having a family. I was 28 years old at the time. I was healthy and so was my husband. When we first got married I was on birth control, but only for 2-3 months and then got off of it because I didn’t like how it made my body feel.

After my grandfather passed away we started trying to have a baby. After a two months of trying, we got pregnant. I had no morning sickness. I continued to work out. I went to all my doctor visits. I was taking my prenatal vitamins + Omega 3 odorless [vitamins] because I didn’t eat seafood. That is why I took the supplement, to help with that. I got a doula by the time I was 6 1/2 months pregnant. I had no complications of any sort. I had insomnia at times and craved fruit and baby was growing. She had an excellent heart beat. By the 3rd trimester, I switched my workouts because my belly was bigger and a bit harder to move with. I went to church one evening and sat next to my friends. As I was sitting, I felt baby Mila kicking. She was kicking so much that I grabbed my friends hand and put it on my belly. I will never forget that night.

The next morning my doula came over for a swaddling session. She came over and she mentioned my belly looked low. At this point I was two weeks away from my due date. As we continued our session I mentioned to her that I had a little bit of blood after urinating. Shortly after that I started having contractions. We timed them. My contractions were coming 15-20 minutes apart. We continued with the session for the 30 minutes. We finished. Shortly after that I left for my doctor visit. I was excited, yet nervous because I knew we would deliver soon. As I went to my  checkup visit, nurses greeted me and I felt happy. When the doctor walked in, he started with the normal check-up.

He went to check the baby’s heart beat. He looked on the left side. For 8 1/2 months and at every checkup, the baby’s heartbeat was there on the left. But this particular day, March 1, 2012, the doctor found no heartbeat. He immediately sent me to the hospital. I got admitted to do another ultrasound and they confirmed that I lost baby Mila. I delivered naturally and no c-section on March 2, 2012. After I delivered her, the doctor checked to see if it was the umbilical cord that took her life. It was wrapped around her neck once, but the doctor said it wasn’t enough to take her life. We were left with no answers to her death. We decided to get an autopsy and check the placenta. And still nothing. No answers. Everything was fine with my placenta. The baby was healthy.

She was too good for earth that she went to Heaven. Today marks one year [at time of writing]. She was 7 pounds, 6 ounces and 21 inches long. We miss her everyday! We hope to start trying to have another baby soon. She will always be our first baby.
