Mom to James Michael Watson

November 30th, 2007

Ozark, Alabama

I found out I was pregnant on 20 November 2007.  I was 16.  I took 3 different tests to make sure I really was. The following day I went to school, and told my best friend.  She, too, had just found out she was expecting! We went to the doctor together, and I got a test done, it was positive! I didn’t really know what to do or say at that moment, I just knew my mother wouldn’t be too happy about it.

On 29 November 2007, at 1am I woke up from a dream, I had been feeling something wet running down my leg. I woke up to see what it was, and it was blood! I googled signs of miscarriages, bleeding was one, cramping, and many other Signs I was having. I was so scared!

30 November 2007, I woke up the next day, got ready for school, and wrote my mother a letter explaining to her what was going on, I told her I was pregnant and that I was sure I was having a miscarriage. While at school, I had clots, huge clots, I had never bled so much. I was extremely scared, my mother showed up to pick me up from school early. She took me to the hospital, where they gave me an ultrasound. There was still a heartbeat, they also informed me that I was having a baby boy, I was 5 months pregnant. I was put on bed rest, and sent home to keep it easy.

Later that day, around 5pm, I was lying on the couch, I began to get these really sharp pains in my stomach, I couldn’t even stand, mom carried me to the car and we went to the hospital again. They gave me another ultrasound, and told me the heart beat was fading, I was in the process of a premature birth.  I was taken to the delivery room and put on a monitor for contractions.

At around 12am, I got the epidural, soon after the baby boy was born, as a stillborn. I was taken into surgery, after that I only remember waking up in my room.  I was told that I had an infection around the baby, and it killed him. They told me, I would be able to conceive, but not to try for 3 months, and that I would bleed for about 2-3 months. I ended up bleeding for over a year; sometimes I’d go about a week without bleeding. I’ve had abnormal periods ever since.

It’s been 4 years, and it’s still weighing on my heart.  I’m almost 21 years old; I’ve been married for 2 years. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year now, and there’s been no luck.
