Amy

Mom to Eli Walker Weatherly

Born still April 18, 2012

Dallas, Texas

After 3 years of marriage, and serious struggles with infertility, my husband and I finally conceived our first child together. He was a boy, who we named Eli Walker. We could not have been any happier to find out that the week of our 3rd wedding anniversary we had finally been given the answer to our prayers. A baby. A baby boy, nonetheless. We went through the first 13 weeks as happy as two clams in our shells. There was nothing that could bring us down off of the high that we experienced knowing that we were going to finally start a family after such a tough journey with infertility. At 14 weeks we got a call from the maternal-fetal specialist that my OB had sent me to for a preliminary Downs Syndrome scan. The results of that test showed that our baby had a 1 in 11 chance of having Trisomy 13 or 18, but no risk of Downs. Trisomy 13 & 18 are little more than a death sentence of the chromosomal deficiency type. We did every test available, with the exception of an amniocentesis, to determine if he was going to be affected with T 13 or T18. After 4 weeks of tests and waiting for results, we got the answer that we were hoping for. No evidence of T 13 or 18 with Eli. Praise God! [Read more…]

Fort Worth, Texas

If you would have asked me when I was 20 where I would be in 5 years, the answer would have come out loud and clear: having babies.  There was never a doubt in my mind that my purpose in life was to become a mom and when I met my husband, Gabriel, when I was 24, I knew that that purpose was going to be fulfilled.  I loved my life; I was living in Hawaii, working at Tripler Army Medical Center as a Licensed Practical Nurse. I had been in the Army for 6 years, and had found exactly who I was.  Meeting Gabe was like the icing on the cake. Once we started dating, we knew that we wanted to have children, which was on the table even before getting married was. Luckily for us, 8 months later we found out we were pregnant.  I was back in Texas when I found out the news. I called Gabe, who was still in Hawaii, and told him, “You are going to be a daddy!”  We were both so incredibly excited!  We were getting married in just over a month, so it was perfect.  I couldn’t believe what the doctor was telling me, so I went home and took at least 10-15more pregnancy tests; all of them were a clear positive! Life was good. We immediately told everyone, Facebook and all.  I would sit there drawing hearts on my tummy, with a smile on my face.  Each week I would write a quick update on what went on that week and how I was feeling; all the excitement that was building. Mom to Angel, born and died November 11, 2005,

Joshua Logan, born and died April 1, 2007

Tyler, Texas

I will never forget when I first found out I was pregnant. We had thought we were pregnant the month before, even though we were not trying and had not planned on having kids for a while. We ended up being disappointed when we found out that we were not pregnant. After that we decided we would stop birth control and see what would happen. We did not expect to get pregnant so fast, but one month later, on a Sunday morning, I tested and sure enough, I was pregnant. We were so excited we could not wait to share with everyone. We called our parents and even announced it at church. We had so many hopes and dreams. We began thinking of names, of course I know at one month it is early for that, but we could not help ourselves because we were so excited. It was in late October when found out. Early November all the Christmas stuff was out and we were so excited. We bought bears because we wanted to do bears for the baby and were going to do bears for a nursery even. There were so many hope and dreams pinned on this new life coming into this world. Our first baby. I am sure some of you can relate to this. Life was great so it seemed. One day, a month in, I began to spot. I called the doctor, who had me come right in. They did a sonogram and said baby was either not as far along as we thought or we had lost it and it was no longer developing. My heart sank. I was so upset and shocked. It was the day before our one year anniversary. They sent me home and said time will tell. Of course by that night the bleeding got worse, and when I went to the restroom at a school dace that my husband was DJ at, it happened. I passed a large clot of stuff and knew it was our baby. It was all I could do to hold it together to get through the night. On a side note, it was my choice that my husband went ahead and did the dance; he would have canceled, but I chose not for him to. None the less, God gave us this precious little life…how in the world could we have been ready for this little life to be taken away in just one month? [Read more…]

Mom to Baby Boy Turner

Born and died October 8, 2011

Austin, Texas

My son is dead. This is something I say to myself at least once every day.  Sometimes I want to scream it at the smiling faces that expect me to smile back.  It’s just too hard to smile because I miss him so much.  Although he came and went so quickly, the imprint he left is amazing. I love him. It’s almost been a year since I lost him and I’m already noticing the cycle restarting. Memorial Day Weekend: he was conceived. Father’s Day: a positive pregnancy test. October 8th, his birth/death day, is right around the corner. [Read more…]

There is a blank page in our wedding album. When my husband asked me, years ago, why it was still blank I said, “I want to put our family portrait there, with all our children. That way when we look at the pictures we get to see our happily ever after.”

That page is still blank. [Read more…]

Jacob Austin

Born February 10, 2012

Due June 3, 2012

Jacksonville, Texas

January 22nd I started the hardest journey of my life. I woke up about 5:30am, after having the chills and what felt like a fever all night.

I kissed my husband goodbye, since he had to be at work at 6:30 that morning… went and sat on the couch and noticed that all wasn’t right.  We had company over so I just tried relaxing on the couch since I had been placed on complete bed rest. About 8:15 or 8:30 I began noticing a sensation I hadn’t before. My water had broken.  I called my mother and my husband and let them know I was going to the emergency room.  After that I told my company I had to leave, and they so kindly packed all of their things and drove me the 50+ miles to the closest hospital. I suffer from Stage IV Endometriosis, and I have also have been diagnosed with recurrent miscarriages. I had a pretty normal pregnancy up till my 7th month. I was due 11/22/2011. I had switched doctors and well my new OBGYN was not happy with my blood pressure. After my first 24 hour urine catch I was shown to have mild preeclampsia So from the end of September to mid October I was being sent to LDR for non stress testing and doing 24 hour urine catches every week. The urine catches for to test for protein in my urine…a sign of preeclampsia and at this point was to make sure it went no higher. [Read more…]

Mommy to Elijah Thomas

Born May 7th, 2009 at 10:13am
Received his angel wings at 11:11am May 7th, 2009

Where should I start? Well I’ll start from the beginning. I went to a routine appointment at 30weeks and the doctor saw that my son seemed to have a cleft lip. The next day I was sent to the hospital to get some more advance ultrasounds. The tech took about an hour and a half and at the end told me to so see my OB/GYN. I went to my doctor’s office and he very calmly told me that my son had some other abnormalities and I needed to go see a perinatologist. I went to get my referral for the perinatologist and had that appointment on a monday. At this time my husband was deployed and I had to call the Red Cross to get him back home before my perinatologist appointment since I had already got bad news that something was wrong with my son’s brain. Miscarried at 12w5d on October 29, 2011

Houston, Texas

My first pregnancy in 2010 with my daughter Lyla was very scary. We found out we were pregnant in January and were so excited! Everything was good until March. I had an extreme amount of bleeding that I woke up to at 2 am one night. I was only 13 weeks. I was so scared but never gave up hope for my baby. I was in and out of the doctor’s office and E.R. that day getting ultrasounds. No one could figure out why I was bleeding the way I was, and some believed I was going to miscarry. The only explanation was that they found that I have a bicornuate uterus (heart-shaped) and maybe that was the cause for the bleeding. They could see the baby, always fine and dancing, in the right horn and a large bleed in the left horn that was about 8 cm.  I was put on complete bedrest to wait it out at home. Once the bleeding subsided after a few days, I starting getting severe cramping/contractions and started passing large blood clots. I was so scared, but still never gave up hope. I remember calling the nurse and asking her about what was going on and she said that if I was going to miscarry, there was nothing they could do. That made me really upset. [Read more…]

“Monkey”

Positive Pregnancy Test July 17th, 2010

Miscarriage Confirmed July 28th, 2010

Temple, Texas

This month marks the 3 year anniversary of when my husband and I started “trying” to conceive. It didn’t always feel like trying because by March of 09 I began charting and shortly after I identified a problem–I wasn’t ovulating. After some time, a visit to a few doctors, I discovered that I had hyperprolactinemia and after a 6 month hold-out from my doctor, finally he agreed to remove the medication that was causing it. I ovulated 2 weeks later! Then in July 2010, on my mother’s birthday and week before mine, I got a positive pregnancy test. It was light, but I was testing quite early. The digital confirmed it. I was so excited I was hyperventilating at first. Then I sent a picture to my husband. The due date was about 2-3 days before his birthday. We had nicknamed our little one “monkey” because it was all the rage in baby items at the time. [Read more…]

I married the love of my life on May 18th 2007. From the first day I met him I know I was going to marry him. We married young– me being 19 and him 21. We knew we wanted kids and in Feb of 2008 we decided to start trying.  After many months and negative pregnancy tests, because of course every month I thought I was pregnant… we started to get concerned.  After a year of TTC and nothing went to see my OB/GYN and May of 2009 was diagnosed with PCOS ( polycystic ovarian syndrome)  Instead of taking Metformin we decided to try the natural way first. I’m not a huge fan of perscription drugs. [Read more…]
