Mother of Gavin Michael

August 16th, 2011 – August 18th, 2011

Kernersville, North Carolina

His name is Gavin Michael and he was beautiful.  He had his mom’s hands, skin tone and hair color and his dad’s everything else.  He came into this world weighing 1 pound 7.34 ounces, without a doubt, the tiniest baby we had ever seen, but also the most perfect.  He had a iron will and the heart of lion.  He was pure and gentle.  As we joyfully welcomed our tiny miracle, we soon also welcomed the most unwanted visitor, death.  We would never be able to hold our son, not until he was taking his last breaths.  We would never be able to dress him, not until he was being dressed for his funeral.  We couldn’t cradle him, or kiss his beautifully crafted face until he was in the quiet throws of death.  Never would be able to comfort his cries, hear his laughter, feed him or even change a dirty diaper.  He would never come home, not until he was brought inside a tiny, palm sized urn and placed ever so delicately into a music box, instead of his crib.     [Read more…]

It was my second child.

My husband and I got married and decided shortly after to start a family. I got pregnant right away and had a wonderful uneventful pregnancy. I delivered a beautiful healthy girl with no complications. I was a bit concerned that because of being of advanced age I might had difficulties but with my little girl it proved that there is nothing wrong about getting pregnant after 35. A year after we decided to try for our second child. I was very confident that nothing would go wrong as it was with my first. I knew of mothers that lost their babies and I knew it could happen but it was more like thinking driving and having a car accident. [Read more…]

June 11th, 2011

Wilmington, North Carolina

March 9, 2011 was one of the happiest days of my life.  After eight months of being off of the pill, I had a positive pregnancy test.  Later I found out I was exactly five weeks on that day.  This was the first pregnancy for my husband and I.  We were not really trying, but we were not preventing… we were just going with the flow. We were so excited to begin this new chapter in our lives.  I consulted my OBGYN the following week to confirm my pregnancy and schedule my first appointment.  We couldn’t wait.  At ten weeks we went for our first visit and ultrasound.  To everyone’s surprise, we saw not one, but two little peanuts on the screen.  We couldn’t believe it, and neither could our family.  We were totally beside ourselves with joy.  Two tiny miracles, on our first pregnancy, and without fertility help. My husband, Trey, and I were married August 8, 1998 after almost 8 years of dating.  I think we both knew deep down we wanted to get married long before the question was ever popped, but we weren’t certain we wanted to commit to such a “grown up” act.  Over the years we’ve experienced many ups and downs, like watching our dogs die from cancer, him suddenly developing Epilepsy and me battling my own health issues with undiagnosed Celiac Disease, but for the most part we counted ourselves lucky living a charmed life.  [Read more…]

I never dreamed that something like this would ever happen to me.  To me, this was something I would have read in a book or heard about from someone else.

On April 12, 2011 I noticed that I was having allot of cramping and was way over due for my period, so I thought I would take a pregnancy test, they’ve always turned out negative so it wasn’t a big deal to me.  After waiting the 3 long minutes, I never anticipated for it to turn out positive, but in bold italics it said Yes!  With this being our first pregnancy, I did not know what to expect, being excited was the last thing on my mind.  After my fiancé got home from work he reassured me that we were going to be fine and we had nothing to worry about.    [Read more…]

My soon to be husband and I were so happy when we found out we were expecting a little bundle of joy! Unexpected.. VERY but that didn’t make us any less excited to become parents. We were so excited when we finally found out that our little bean was a very healthy baby girl! Words cannot express how you feel when they type out those three little words on a monitor “It’s a GIRL!” We right away started to buy everything in pink and purples! Our whole world unexpectedly changed just a few weeks later. I had changed doctor in the middle of my pregnancy. [Read more…]

16 weeks, 5 days gestation

Archdale, NC

Here’s the story of how I got to where I am now…

My name is Crystal. My husband, Allen and I were married on September 16, 2000… six years and one day after our first date. I was 20 and he was 25. (We met on a blind date the beginning of my freshman year of high school.) I was finishing college and wanted to wait on starting a family. We figured we were young and had the rest of our lives. What was the rush, right? We decided during our 3rd year of marriage we were ready to begin our family. I went off the pill and we anxiously awaited the day when we would be able to buy the pregnancy test and see those 2 lines. [Read more…]

Shelly

Mother to Leia Grace

Delivered still on January 11, 2011

North Carolina

Our story begins just over three years ago. My husband and I had met two years prior and were married in April 2008. We were both very ready to start a family and build our lives together. We tried for almost one year on our own and then we both went to get checked out and make sure there was nothing wrong with us. Our doctor diagnosed us with “unexplained infertility.” They were not sure why we were not having success with conceiving on our own as there was nothing medically wrong with either one of us. Miscarried on January 16th, 2005 at 11 weeks after infertility due to PCOS
West Jefferson, North Carolina

My husband and I were high school sweethearts and were married in July 2000.  After a year of marriage we decided to go off birth control and try for a baby.  We were not discouraged when it did not happen immediately.  We were busy with our careers and enjoying life as husband and wife.
It wasn’t until over a year later when I began to question why it was taking so long.  We had just moved to a new town, so my first priority was to find a new OBGYN and begin to look into things.  I documented my temperature, did endless labwork,  had my tubes examined for blockages, and even took clomid in attemps to conceive, but to no avail.    After almost a year my OBGYN sent me to an infertility specialist.  I was discouraged but still in the game.  After all, we’d been on this road for almost 4 years now.

My pregnancy was unexpected BUT exciting and highly anticipated. I had no real complications other than the fact that I had high blood pressure going into the pregnancy. The first 4 months I did not need medication for my HBP at all but then at my 4month visit my dr. wanted to see me back because my bp was elevated. At this point she put my on a low dose bp med for pregnant women experiencing hbp.

My husband, Skip, and I met 7 years ago, and finally married March, 2, 2007. We were so happy to actually be married, and were excited to start a family. We found out that we were expecting at the end of June 07. We were so elated to be bringing our first little one into the world. The expected due date was 2-21-08, which fell in between the rest of the family’s birthdays. Mine is 2-14, and my husbands is 2-20, not to mention the rest of the family with Feb. birthdays. so the two of us argued about who’s birthday our li’l one’s would end up falling on. The 21st would have been solely his though.

I went to all of my doctors appointments, and I had the most amazing doctor ever, and the pregnancy was going along smoothly, and everything was perfect. All of the tests came back negative.. and all the ultrasounds showed our li’l peanut to be growing just as he was supposed to. All of his organs were forming and working just as they should while still inside mommy.

I have always wanted to be a mom, so when the second pink line showed up on the pregnancy test(s) in June 2009, I was nothing less than thrilled. My husband and I were married in July 2008 and had recently stopped using birth control, so the news of this pregnancy was wonderful. I would say it was a surprise, but I knew I was pregnant long before I took the tests. I just felt different and knew that there was life inside of me. I even picked up some children’s books that I planned on using in a special way to tell my husband about the pregnancy two weeks before the test came back positive. Once I told him we were both so thrilled and couldn’t hold our joy in! We immediately started dreaming of what the future would be like with our little peanut and decided to tell our friends and family right away.
