Mom to Avalon

Born still December 13, 2012 at 20 weeks gestation

Ann Arbor, Michigan

I’ve always wanted a daughter. I’m the seventh in a line of mothers and daughters, through which the property I own has been passed down. The mothers and daughters in my family are very close, and there was nothing I wanted more than the next girl of our line. My sisters both had little girls as well, and my mother was rooting for a girl from the start. I used a sperm donor to conceive, and got pregnant on the fourth try. I was one week away from my 19 week anatomy scan when I suddenly began to bleed. I was hospitalized with a suspected partial placental abruption, but luckily the baby was ok and my cervix was closed, although on the thin side. [Read more…]

Our baby girl was diagnosed with a cystic hygroma (extra fluid on the back of her neck) at our 13-week ultrasound. The doctors told us she most likely had a chromosomal abnormality that caused the hygroma, and there was a chance she could die before she was born. We were devastated, as we wanted everything to be perfect with our first baby. We took a blood test that tested for Down Syndrome, Turners Syndrome, Trisomy 13, and Trisomy 18. The tests came back negative for all, and that is when we found out we were having a daughter.

Mommy to a beautiful girl, Mikayla Danielle

Michigan

October 25, 2012

At 18 years old, my boyfriend and I found out that we would be expecting a child. I immediately fell in love with baby growing inside of me. I would sit up all night and talk to the baby that I called “Mommy’s little pumpkin.” I’d always say, “No you were not planned but you’re still welcome all the same” and say how much I loved him/her. At around what was supposed to 19 weeks, I had a dream that I miscarried my baby at 4 months. Since I was supposedly 5 months along, I made no big deal of it. That was until I went to the doctor & they said I was indeed only 4 months along and that we would be having a beautiful baby girl whom we decided to name Mikayla Danielle.

Mom to Jack Wyatt

Born and died March 19, 2013

Ann Arbor, Michigan

My first trimester had been pretty rocky – I had a what they called “threatened miscarriages” but after no miscarriage actually happened and my hormone levels kept rising – we were eventually told I had a subchorionic hematoma (or blood clot in the uterus) and to try and stay off my feet as much as possible and hope it cleared up on its own. That was stressful and scary. Around week 12, the ultrasound showed no sign of it! We were overjoyed. Then around week 16, more weird problems. I was having trouble urinating – I would feel like I had to go really bad, but nothing would come out. I went into the hospital and they diagnosed me with a super rare condition called “incarcerated uterus”. What happens is that the uterus gets trapped under the pubic bone as the baby grows, which blocks off the urethra, making it impossible to urinate. They had to keep me in catheters for 3 days (so not fun) – then they tried to physically move it out by hand, but it was excruciatingly painful for me, so my Dr. booked an OR and they gave me a spinal, then popped it out and into place. I could describe how scary and painful this whole ordeal was–but it seems almost trivial now, given what happened six weeks later. This was nothing–Jack was still alive, and that’s what mattered. Robin

Mom to Miles John

September 13, 2012 – September 17, 2012

Grand Rapids, Michigan

My husband and I decided to start a family in January of 2011. I promptly went off the pill and hoped that I would get pregnant quickly. It took about a year for me to finally get a positive reading, and 4 short weeks after that happened, I found out I was having a miscarriage. That was January 2012. Things weren’t progressing on their own, so I had a D&C on January 11, 2012. I was devastated and convinced the only thing that would take away the pain was getting pregnant again as soon as possible. So, in April, when we could try again, my husband and I went to Europe on vacation and the day we returned home I took another test and found out I was pregnant for the second time. [Read more…]

It was September 7, 2011 and I remember feeling sick, tired, and emotional.  I told my husband I knew I was pregnant, so when I took the test the next morning I was not shocked to see two pink lines staring back at me.  I tested the next several days and watched the line darken, which was very reassuring.  At the time I was 21 years old, a newlywed, and my first pregnancy had gone so smoothly. I was on Cloud 9, and seeing those two beautiful pink lines meant nothing less to me than bringing a baby home from the hospital in eight or nine months. [Read more…]

Brandy

Mom to Baby July

Lost July 5, 2012 at 6w5d gestation

Albion, Michigan

After giving birth to a beautiful baby boy in September 2010, come April 2011, I was ready for another baby. My husband was not on board whatsoever at that point. We finally sat down and discussed a good time line to begin trying to conceive again. We both decided that April 2012 would be the perfect time to start adding to our family. So in the middle of April, my birth control was finished and it was time to start trying for another baby! It was a long and agonizing year of waiting to try to conceive. But it was finally here and we were both more ready than ever! After 2 cycles of trying, we got our first positive test on June 13, 2012 at 3w4d pregnant. I was so ecstatic! I waited to tell my husband because I wanted to make it a special Father’s Day for him. But…the excitement took over and I suspected that my husband sort of knew already with my happier mood! So the next day, I decided to give him his Father’s Day card a few days early and in it…a positive digital pregnancy test with the word “PREGNANT” plain as day across the screen! We were just so excited and happy. Even our son, who was only about 20 months at the time, seemed to be super excited, even though he hadn’t a clue what was going on. [Read more…]

Born still September 22, 2011

Fenton, Michigan

I am 36 years old, and my husband of 2 years is 34.  We have been together for a long time and he decided 3 years ago to make an honest woman out of me.  John is my best friend…he has been for almost 12 years now.  We share everything and can hide nothing from each other.  We are very much in love still and when we found out on January 14, 2011 that we were going to be parents after only trying for a couple of months to conceive. We were elated.  My pregnancy was okay as far as they go, until the last 4 weeks or so.  I had a very active baby girl in there and she was always on the move.  She loved to listen to me talk and when I did start talking she would move up in my belly just to be closer to my voice.  She would literally dance when a good song came on the radio, she had a knack for kicking or punching the beat out, my doctor thought this was me being CRAZY until she actually felt it for herself on a regular OB visit in the summer. Mom to Malach

Born and died September 17, 2007

It all started with a positive pregnancy test as most pregnancies do. I was excited! We weren’t trying, but what are you going to do? I always wanted to be a mom and even though I was only 19 at the time I knew I could do it. My boyfriend was 25 at the time. It was our first child together. Everything about my pregnancy was normal. I got very lucky I didn’t have any morning sickness or any of the bad pregnancy symptoms. [Read more…]

Tristan

Mom to Gabriel

October 8, 2009 – November 5, 2009

Rockford, Michigan

I woke up early on the morning of February 27, 2009. It was my husband and my first anniversary, and for some reason, although we were not actively trying to become pregnant, I felt compelled to take a pregnancy test even though I wasn’t late yet. I sat there waiting, and honestly terrified. I was 20 years old, and my husband was 19. He had just lost his job, and it was nearly impossible to find work in our area. I pondered what would happen if I was pregnant, and how we could support a child. Finally, I couldn’t take the suspense anymore. I looked and saw two lines. Two. I felt like screaming with happiness, but I just walked into our bedroom where my husband was still sleeping. I woke him up, and told him I had found something important, and handed him the test. He didn’t trust the test, so we went to the local grocery store, and bought a digital test. Almost immediately “pregnant” popped up. We couldn’t have been happier. [Read more…]

My name is Adrienne, my husband’s name is Justin. We lost our first born to stillbirth of unknown reasons on September 5, 2006. I had no prior losses and my pregnancy was easy. At my 32 week appointment I measured 35 weeks, an ultrasound was scheduled for my 34 week appointment to see if I was having a big boy. Two days before my appointment, Avery Jace was stillborn. Mom to Hunter James

Born Still on October 21, 2011

Westland, MI

My beautiful baby boy, Hunter James, was born still on October 21, 2011.  He was 1lb. 11oz. and 13 inches long. He had my nose and facial features, his daddy’s brown hair and long toes.
My husband and I had been married for just under a year when we decided to start trying for our first child. I was very excited and ready to be a mommy.  I had an IUD, which I had taken out as soon as we decided. We got pregnant right away, within the first few weeks of it being out. This was very unexpected, but very exciting.

Mom to Gracen Maize

Born asleep May 3, 2011

Mount Pleasant, Michigan

My story initially starts in October 2010 – the 25th to be exact. That was the day we got our first positive pregnancy test after 16 months of actively trying. We were blissfully excited until about 5 weeks along when I started spotting. Beta draws revealed that the numbers weren’t doubling like they should have been. An ultrasound at 6 weeks determined there to be nothing in the sac. My OB suspected a blighted ovum. We scheduled another ultrasound for a week later. The night before the ultrasound, I miscarried, on my own, at 7 weeks.

Mom to William George

April 1st, 2009

Alpina, MI

William would have been a week old on April 8, 2009, if he’d been alive the day I pushed him into the world. My due date. We’d been anticipating that date for nine months. He lived inside of me for three-quarters of a year. I held him in my womb for three seasons. Spring seems like such a perfect time for birth, when everything is coming alive. Now, for me, everything feels dead, and my baby is dead, and the last thing I want to do is watch the world come to life again.

I was 14 weeks pregnant driving home from my parents’ house with my two year old daughter, when I was rear ended. It was really just a “bump”, I had thought at the time. Everyone was ok, and we left the scene unharmed. I called my OB to let them know what happened, and asked if they thought I should be seen. The doctor on call, who was not my personal doctor, but a partner said, “I would definitely think you should come in and be sure everything is ok. After all, wouldn’t you feel terrible if you had a miscarriage in a week?” [Read more…]

It took my husband Jeff and I three years to start our family.  We finally gave up and said we would be great Aunts and Uncles. After coming home from a family trip to Germany to meet my cousins for the first time we found out that we came home with more than pictures and great memories. I was pregnant! We were so happy. I always knew I wanted children, but I didn’t seriously think about it until I got married to my high school sweetheart in June 2006, at age 20. Then suddenly it was like a lightbulb went on and I knew that I just wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. I knew it was best for me to finish college first, but it was a big struggle for me to have to wait awhile to try to have a baby. By early 2007 we had stopped using any contraception, and in June 2007 I found out that I was pregnant. [Read more…]
