Mom to Baby Staley- Morgan

I was 19 weeks pregnant and had found out I was carrying an unhealthy baby and the baby would more than likely lose its fetal heartbeat within the next few weeks or month. I had gone in for a routine ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby, but instead found out that the baby had a massive cyst and was gathering fluid around its heart. I was in complete shock, which was supposed to be a day of joy not sadness. I was lying on the bed during the ultrasound while my doctor was telling me all the horrible news. In complete shock, I instantly started praying and asking God to remove the cyst and make my baby healthy. My OB doctor said the baby more than likely had Turners Syndrome, a disease more common in girls. We had trouble finding out the sex because we couldn’t see much of the baby because of all the cysts. I was very thankful I had a few family members there with me during this time. They were all very excited as well as me about getting to find out the sex of the baby. [Read more...]

Mount Sterling, Kentucky

My son was 16 months old when my husband and I found out we were expecting our second child. We were nervous for a bunch of different reasons. We didn’t know how we could afford two children and I felt kind of bad for bringing another child into the world when my son didn’t even know what was going on. I felt like I wasn’t going to have as much time to spend with him. But as the news grew on us we became more and more excited! I couldn’t help but look at baby clothes every time we would go to the store. I was really hoping for a little girl since I already had my son, but as long as it was healthy was all I cared about. I went to the doctor for a simple UTI…or so I thought….I learned in Sept. 2011 I was pregnant with my 3rd child, the 4th between my spouse and me. I am classified as a high risk pregnancy from the start since I am a type 1, juvenile diabetic and have been for over 25 years. I immediately told my spouse, who could not quit smiling. We knew we had risks, but this was my third…this should be a cake walk. We thought we knew it all: I would have a repeat c-section and knew the baby would come early (my 5-year old was born at 30 weeks, her sister at 34 weeks). We knew we would probably deal with a NICU stay and all. We could handle it. I am a firefighter/EMT, so we knew I would be limited at work. We could do this… [Read more...]

When I had my third child, I had only been not-pregnant for 16 months before getting pregnant with her. Unfortunately, in our humanness, we are broken people, and I was pretty resistant to having a baby so soon after having my second child. Her pregnancy was not a pleasant one, and neither was my attitude towards it. When she arrived though, and spent 7 days in the NICU, my attitude changed drastically. This sets the premise for the story of my first miscarriage. [Read more...]

So this is mine and my husband’s first child. We were so excited to find out that I was pregnant. I found out when I was 18 that I have endometriosis and it would be difficult for me to get pregnant. So at the time I wasn’t seeing anyone seriously and I went on the Depo shot for birth control. Well then I met my husband and a little over a year later we were married and I stopped taking the depo shot that I had been on for a little over 2 yrs. About 6 months into the marriage we were trying to get pregnant but no luck. So we were getting ready to go talk to a doctor after it had been a yr and no luck. Then I found out I was pregnant.

At 18 years old, I found out I was pregnant. I was a month out of high school and supposed to start college in the fall. My pregnancy went forward like something out of a textbook: very healthy, no complications. I gained an acceptable amount of weight. I was four days overdue and had to be induced because my amniotic fluid started leaking. The delivery of my 1st child was completely normal. The only thing that was surprising was my son’s weight – he weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs 6.5 oz and was 23.5 inches long! His blood sugar and temp were low at birth, but after a few hours he was fine. My midwife told me that I “was born to have babies.” [Read more...]

When Noah was 1 1/2 we decided that we wanted to add to our happy family. So we started trying.

It took my husband and I almost three years to get pregnant. We spent a full year trying to get pregnant on our own before we finally went to the doctor frustrated, angry, and exhausted. After almost two years of medications and having surgery to open my tubes we finally got pregnant in August 2010. It sounds funny, but I was shocked. I had just been so used to the negative pregnancy tests that the positive one did not seem real. Right from the start I was terrified that I was going to lose this pregnancy.

It was a wonderful Christmas present to our families. We had found out that my husband and I were expecting early in December and told our families as they were gathering around for Christmas Dinner. My husband stands up and says “Don’t mind Jessie’s full plate, she is eating for two now!” Everyone was so excited and we laughed imagining me having fun down at the lake all summer with a big ole belly.

My husband said to me, “Maybe we could just let it go this once.” He was talking about protection. We had discussed having a baby, I have two girls, and he had none. He always said he didn’t want his own children. We had grown up together, and after 18yrs and my divorce we became a couple. I was so excited to try for a baby even though I had suffered from fertility issues in the past. I had a really good feeling about this.

The day my husband and I found out I was pregnant was one of the happiest days of my life.

We had been trying to conceive for about 6 months and finally God blessed us with another baby. We had our wedding planned for Sept 4 but with us finding out the great news we moved the wedding up to July 17. With planning a wedding and a new baby life was hectic, but I was overjoyed by everything. Finally we were going to expand our family and give my son Damien his baby brother he wanted. But my dreams for Trenton would soon become broken dreams and empty promises.

Mom to Eli David Roseberry
Stillborn on June 17th, 2010

The whole day on Wednesday, June 16th, Eli made little movement. I wasn’t too concerned because I was 36 weeks pregnant with my second baby and this was the first time I had made it this far, I thought this was ”normal” for this gestation. At 10:45 that night I felt him push his little butt up against the right side of my ribs. I assumed everything was alright even though I couldn’t hear his heartbeat with the doppler (it picked up too much static). At that point I decided to take a shower and go to bed. At 11pm while going to the bathroom, I felt a pop and assumed my water had broken. When I looked down I was gushing blood and I knew something was wrong.
I got dressed and we headed straight to the hospital. I called labor and delievery with en route to let them know what had happened so they would be prepared once we got there. Once at the hospital I had several nurses in my room getting me hooked up and set up with IVs and blood work. One nurse tried to find his heartbeat with the monitor while another prepped me for a c-section. I knew something was wrong when after five minutes she couldn’t find it. They then tried the dopplar and an ultrasound, the whole time not saying anything, except to call Dr. Dotson. The ultrasound technician from downstairs came up and did another ultrasound and then Dr. Dotson arrived, sat on my bedside and watch the ultrasound. He put his hand on my leg, looked at me and said “I’m so sorry, we’ve lost his heartbeat.” My whole world crashed around me. I had made it 36 weeks with a healthy baby, felt him move 15 minutes before the blood came, and now he was gone. That was at 12am on Thursday morning.

Nick and I had been happily married for nine months, when we decided that children were our next step to becoming a family. So in August of 2009, we started trying to conceive and lucky for us we were immediately pregnant. I had never even thought about miscarriage. My friends had never talked about it and I thought, it can never happen to me. Well I was wrong. I started having brown spotting about a week later after getting our BFP and went to a festival five hours away only to start bleeding heavily. That night I stood in the shower crying and crying over again.

We went to the doctor and she told us to wait one cycle, so that is exactly what we did.  We got a BFP in November of ’09. We were pregnant again, but this time tried not to get to excited. I read the odds of reoccurring miscarriages weren’t too high so I was expecting a healthy August ’10 baby. Not so much. At 10 weeks I started spotting brown again and went in to the doctor where they told me the baby died a 7 weeks and 1 day. I was scheduled for a D & C five days later. I woke up the day before by D & C to horrible cramping and sat on the toilet only to pass so much blood I wasn’t sure what to do. I ended up having an emergency D & C due to the heavy blood loss and drop in blood pressure.

Again we sat at the doctor’s office where we were told, wait a cycle and you can try again. We ended up getting our BFP April 2010. I would go to the office very three days to get blood work to make sure my HCG counts were doubling and they were.

We went in for an US at 7 weeks and there she was beating heat and all. At 8 weeks I woke up from a nap only to be welcomed by bright red blood. I remember crying and calling my husband home to go to the ER. The baby was healthy and had a heartbeat of 181. Every week after that until 12 weeks, our doctors brought us in to do US to make us feel better. Baby girl was moving every time we saw her. She looked perfect!

I can’t say I am one of those women who have always wanted to be a mom. In fact, before my husband and I got married, we often envisioned our lives together as free and roaming the world. That all changed on Christmas Eve of 2008 as I held my cousin’s newborn baby in my arms. Somehow this tiny little girl reached deep into my heart and pulled a string that I didn’t even know existed. I wanted it and I wanted it bad. At first I tried to ignore it. After all, I had put a lot if effort into dreaming up a life without children. But babies seemed to be following me everywhere. Babies on Fischer-Price commercials. Pregnant women pushing their bright red shopping carts in Target. Babies cooing in radio ads for the local hospital. Even women clamoring to be the next to hold the baby during a wake. Yes, I had Baby Fever.

December 2009: My period was ALWAYS 28 days on the nose, I was on birth control but for some reason I was late. I was happily married to my best friend and had two beautiful kids, Brianna and Kaden. I came home from helping a friend and told my husband I was late. It made him realize that he did want more kids like me. But soon after that I started. We made the decision to just not restart my birth control when I finished my period.

I found out I was pregnant in October 2009.  It was a major shock! I was on the pill. How could I be pregnant? I knew I had to call my OB immediately. I suffer from chronic migraines and was on quite a bit of medication at the time.  He fit me in two days later and it was official.  We were having a baby!  To say we were over the moon is an understatement.
