Mom to Maddox Tye

July 13, 2014 – October 17, 2014

Columbia, Kentucky

My husband and I found out we were 6 weeks pregnant in March of 2014. We were so excited. Shortly afterwards, I had a few concerns with my pregnancy and I went to the ER. Come to find out I had a placenta abruption. The doctors told me it would either resolve on its own or get worse. Only time would tell. So time went on and things were fine until I was about 12 weeks, I had another round of issues so I decided to be seen again. It was the same problem, it hadn’t gotten worse but it hadn’t resolved either. The doctor sent me home on mild bed rest. Things went well again and we found out we had a healthy growing baby boy.

I found out I was pregnant sometime around December 2012. I was 18 years old at the time. I was very happy, but very scared of what my father would say, so I didn’t say a word to him. I decided to tell my mother because I knew she wouldn’t be angry with me. My boyfriend Cody (19 years old at the time) didn’t take the news that great, but he came around.

Mom to Xavier

July 7, 2013 – August 2, 2013

Stanton, Kentucky

“Well, this sucks.”

That was the actual thought that went through my head as we were driving home from the hospital. Driving home without our baby. Without our little Xavier. I remember thinking to myself, no…that’s not the right emotion. That’s not the proper reaction. Why am I not having the proper reaction to this situation? I hadn’t been having the proper reaction to things all morning. Why do I feel so weird. I later learned that I was in a very deep state of shock and I didn’t fully understand what had happened until I saw my Xavier laying in his casket the day of the funeral.

Mom to AJ

January 29, 2014

Grethel, Kentucky

We were trying to conceive for 6 years and nothing had happened in that time frame. I decided to start dieting and exercising and amazingly my periods started to come ever month, but I was still not pregnant. In 2013, we decided to find an OB to see what could be wrong after that long. We just knew something wasn’t right. My appointment was in August of 2013. That day we found out that I’ve been suffering from PCOS. That’s the reason why I couldn’t get pregnant, so my doctor decided to put me on Clomid (150mg tablets) to see what would happen. As me and my husband were leaving the appointment, we was so very happy and excited to finally know what had been going on and that we would have a chance at this. After the round of Clomid, I called and got my blood work results and they came back 13.7 for my progesterone level. As soon as I hung up the phone, I called my husband crying saying,”It worked baby!” I couldn’t believe it and was very surprised that it helped.

I was 6 weeks when I found out I was pregnant. From the moment I found out, my life changed forever. I wanted to make sure that I did all that I could to have a healthy baby and pregnancy. I really lost all appetite, but made myself eat for the sake of the baby. I would not go around people who smoked and I didn’t eat anything unhealthy. I was really ridiculous but I wanted everything to be perfect and to have a healthy baby.

Mom to Emma Lynn

March 27, 2012

Independence, Kentucky

I had my daughter Emma Lynn on March 27, 2012. It was an infant loss. I was 19 when I got pregnant and even though I was super young and her father wasn’t involved, I was super excited to become a mom and have a daughter. When I was 25 weeks pregnant, my doctor called me and said my ultrasound pictures came back not looking good. They said her brain wasn’t developing right and she wasn’t going to make it out of alive. But I kept going through the pregnancy being hopeful, thinking she was going to come out perfect. I got to spend 10 hours with her after I had her. No doubt the most amazing 10 hours of my life. I found a quote the other day and I think it fits perfectly.

“The death of a child is the single most traumatic event. To lose a child is to lose a piece of yourself.”

Mom to Breely Grace

November 27, 2012

Hartford, Kentucky

I lost my sweet Angel, Breely Grace on November 27, 2012. I was 39 weeks pregnant. I went in that morning around 9:00 a.m. for my weekly appointment. I was having contractions off and on, so I thought I was already in early labor. I brought her diaper bag as well as my hospital bag with me because I was prepared to be sent over to the hospital. I told my husband to keep his phone handy at work, just in case and sent my little boy to my mom’s with his overnight bag.

Mom to Baby Staley- Morgan

Born still August 23, 2012

Buckhorn, Kentucky

I was 19 weeks pregnant and had found out I was carrying an unhealthy baby and the baby would more than likely lose its fetal heartbeat within the next few weeks or month. I had gone in for a routine ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby, but instead found out that the baby had a massive cyst and was gathering fluid around its heart. I was in complete shock, which was supposed to be a day of joy not sadness. I was lying on the bed during the ultrasound while my doctor was telling me all the horrible news. In complete shock, I instantly started praying and asking God to remove the cyst and make my baby healthy. My OB doctor said the baby more than likely had Turners Syndrome, a disease more common in girls. We had trouble finding out the sex because we couldn’t see much of the baby because of all the cysts. I was very thankful I had a few family members there with me during this time. They were all very excited as well as me about getting to find out the sex of the baby. [Read more…]

Mom to Gabriel

Miscarried February 24, 2012
at 15 weeks 3 days

Mount Sterling, Kentucky

My son was 16 months old when my husband and I found out we were expecting our second child. We were nervous for a bunch of different reasons. We didn’t know how we could afford two children and I felt kind of bad for bringing another child into the world when my son didn’t even know what was going on. I felt like I wasn’t going to have as much time to spend with him. But as the news grew on us we became more and more excited! I couldn’t help but look at baby clothes every time we would go to the store. I was really hoping for a little girl since I already had my son, but as long as it was healthy was all I cared about. Mom to Angel Mae

Born still January 6, 2012

Erlanger, Kentucky

I went to the doctor for a simple UTI…or so I thought….I learned in Sept. 2011 I was pregnant with my 3rd child, the 4th between my spouse and me. I am classified as a high risk pregnancy from the start since I am a type 1, juvenile diabetic and have been for over 25 years. I immediately told my spouse, who could not quit smiling. We knew we had risks, but this was my third…this should be a cake walk. We thought we knew it all: I would have a repeat c-section and knew the baby would come early (my 5-year old was born at 30 weeks, her sister at 34 weeks). We knew we would probably deal with a NICU stay and all. We could handle it. I am a firefighter/EMT, so we knew I would be limited at work. We could do this… [Read more…]

When I had my third child, I had only been not-pregnant for 16 months before getting pregnant with her. Unfortunately, in our humanness, we are broken people, and I was pretty resistant to having a baby so soon after having my second child. Her pregnancy was not a pleasant one, and neither was my attitude towards it. When she arrived though, and spent 7 days in the NICU, my attitude changed drastically. This sets the premise for the story of my first miscarriage. [Read more…]

Mom to Grace Elizabeth

February 23, 2011

Shelbyville, KY

So this is mine and my husband’s first child. We were so excited to find out that I was pregnant. I found out when I was 18 that I have endometriosis and it would be difficult for me to get pregnant. So at the time I wasn’t seeing anyone seriously and I went on the Depo shot for birth control. Well then I met my husband and a little over a year later we were married and I stopped taking the depo shot that I had been on for a little over 2 yrs. About 6 months into the marriage we were trying to get pregnant but no luck. So we were getting ready to go talk to a doctor after it had been a yr and no luck. Then I found out I was pregnant.

Mommy to Brandon Thomas

Stillborn on December 29th, 1997

Bowling Green, KY

At 18 years old, I found out I was pregnant. I was a month out of high school and supposed to start college in the fall. My pregnancy went forward like something out of a textbook: very healthy, no complications. I gained an acceptable amount of weight. I was four days overdue and had to be induced because my amniotic fluid started leaking. The delivery of my 1st child was completely normal. The only thing that was surprising was my son’s weight – he weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs 6.5 oz and was 23.5 inches long! His blood sugar and temp were low at birth, but after a few hours he was fine. My midwife told me that I “was born to have babies.” [Read more…]

Went to be with the Lord February 5th, 2011

It took my husband and I almost three years to get pregnant. We spent a full year trying to get pregnant on our own before we finally went to the doctor frustrated, angry, and exhausted. After almost two years of medications and having surgery to open my tubes we finally got pregnant in August 2010. It sounds funny, but I was shocked. I had just been so used to the negative pregnancy tests that the positive one did not seem real. Right from the start I was terrified that I was going to lose this pregnancy.

It was a wonderful Christmas present to our families. We had found out that my husband and I were expecting early in December and told our families as they were gathering around for Christmas Dinner. My husband stands up and says “Don’t mind Jessie’s full plate, she is eating for two now!” Everyone was so excited and we laughed imagining me having fun down at the lake all summer with a big ole belly.

My husband said to me, “Maybe we could just let it go this once.” He was talking about protection. We had discussed having a baby, I have two girls, and he had none. He always said he didn’t want his own children. We had grown up together, and after 18yrs and my divorce we became a couple. I was so excited to try for a baby even though I had suffered from fertility issues in the past. I had a really good feeling about this.

The day my husband and I found out I was pregnant was one of the happiest days of my life.

We had been trying to conceive for about 6 months and finally God blessed us with another baby. We had our wedding planned for Sept 4 but with us finding out the great news we moved the wedding up to July 17. With planning a wedding and a new baby life was hectic, but I was overjoyed by everything. Finally we were going to expand our family and give my son Damien his baby brother he wanted. But my dreams for Trenton would soon become broken dreams and empty promises.
