Mom to Parker Saint

Born still November 26, 2004

So, I guess I need to start from when this all started. I was 17 and the doctor told me that he did not think I was going to have babies, that I had a lot going on. I was okay with that. I was only 17. I did not want kids. Then, at the age 23, I had just had my birthday and was still with my boyfriend of 6 years and my sister had her baby, and I now knew that I wanted a little baby also. I told my boyfriend, “You know, maybe we start talking about babies and having the wedding we have been talking about for so long. He told me to Google it and see how long it was going to take, did we need to see a doctor or what, so I did and it looked like if I was going to have one it was going to take a year or more. This was June 19, 2004, and we started trying for a baby! On Aug 4th I was going to go off with my friend the next day and do the shopping that we did every year. That night we stopped for a drink and it made me so sick to just look at it. Thinking that something was up I had to take a test and there it was, 2 lines! We were going to have a baby! So much for a year, right? [Read more…]

My story starts very typically and ends with such tragedy. I met the man I knew I would spend my life with and be a good dad to my son, we decided to start a family of our own. Right before Christmas 2009 we found out we were pregnant, I had a normal pregnancy with my son but he was born premature at 32 weeks. I can’t explain why but I had a feeling that things were very different this time. I hardly ever felt the baby move even after 16-17 weeks; I kind of blew it off because it was hard for me to remember 5 years ago what it was like. Plus I had an anterior placenta which the doctor told me would block a lot of his movement. [Read more…]

For all of my life, as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a mom. God blessed me with Isaac and let me become one on this earth and I will forever thank Him for that. However, another thing that some may even think I’m weird for, that I wanted to experience was being pregnant long enough to feel my baby move, to see their beautiful baby outline on the ultrasound machine and hear their precious heart beating. On July 9th, 2010 I woke up much earlier than usual and for some reason decided while still half asleep that I would take a pregnancy test, it was still a day or two early to be testing but something in me said it couldn’t hurt. When I saw the two lines on that test I instantly screamed. After a year and a half of infertility treatment that included provera, clomid and follistim as well as countless blood work & ultrasounds we were finally pregnant. We soon found out that my HCG levels were not up to par and an early ultrasound showed a blighted ovum. [Read more…]

It took us a while to get pregnant.  I remember going through those days of infertility and how I couldn’t believe it was happening to me – to us.  Then, after 4 years of trying, countless procedures, and ready to throw out the dream of carrying a child, we found out it worked – we were pregnant!  What followed less than 2 weeks later was finding out we were having twins!  What a miracle!!  After years of trying, finally we had been blessed with not one but two babies! Born at 32 weeks on May 10th and Died May 12th due to a heart defect

I am the mother of 3 angels and my last angel died 2 weeks ago.  My story starts 9 years ago when I had my first son Ryan.  When we found out I was pregnant, I was 3 months along and told our family at a restaurant where we had lunch, everyone was ecstatic to hear our news.  I can recall that it was a good pregnancy, no problems and all was going well until 18th April (Good Friday) evening at 11:50pm when I suddenly felt the urge to go to the toilet, which I did and to my horror, saw a thick mucus discharge with blood,  my husband took  me to the Medi-clinic emergency room immediately, where they admitted me as they suspected I was in labour, they put me on the monitor and had a look at my cervix which was not fully dilated yet.  All was going okay during the night and when the OB/GYN came early Saturday morning, she discovered that I was 7 cm dilated and immediately put me on meds to prevent the cervix from dilating further.

My husband and I were high school sweethearts who got married in June 2007 after five years of dating. In 2009, we made the decision to try to start a family. I knew that there may be some difficulties because I had extremely irregular menstrual cycles. I decided to set up a pre-conception visit with an OB-GYN so that I could find out what steps to take to ensure a healthy pregnancy. At the visit, we discussed my concerns about my cycles and I immediately received a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist.

I found out I was pregnant for the first time in June 2005. I was nervous about telling my mom, because I was raised “first get married and then babies” lol. After I told my mom MY good news, it took her a while to get over it. Didn’t take her very long though, because the next thing you know she starts buying baby clothes. Me too, I just couldn’t resist the cute little outfits. [Read more…]

Mother to Liam Ellis
Born and Died February 16th, 2011 at 7:35PM
Arlington, Virginia
Our story begins in October of 2010 when my fiance Jordan and I found out we were pregnant. We were excited, but also scared. This was our first pregnancy and we had no idea the amount of love we would experience for our baby. I had nausea a lot early in pregnancy and as we reached 15 weeks, my nausea subsided and I started to enjoy all aspects of my pregnancy. I felt so happy and full of life (literally). At around 16-17 weeks I started having some pain in my lower abdomen area but when I told my doctor and researched online, I was told it was round ligament pain and dismissed. It subsided slowly until it was gone.

I selected my OB based strictly on geography.  When I asked my general doctor for a referral, she knew of only one doctor in the area near my work.  I called the office and scheduled an appointment for infertility.  We had been trying for a year and a half with no success and I was ready to talk to someone who might be able to help.  Since I’m a teacher, I called at the beginning of my summer and they didn’t have any openings until the end of my summer.  However, one week before my appointment I took a pregnancy test and found out I was pregnant.  We were so excited, we’d been married almost five years and now we were going to be parents!  I called the office and changed my infertility appointment to a pregnancy confirmation appointment.

I am Tabitha Shorter mother to Garrison Terrelle Shorter who was born sleeping December 26, 2010 with my nose and his father’s lips and mouth. Gary and I met the summer 2008 while I was teaching and coaching basketball in South Carolina and we talked a couple of times during the summer. Gary is professional photographer as well as a Networking Engineer so he always had a busy schedule. It was not until November 2008, that he just happened to call me as I was coming home from a basketball game which we had lost miserably. He had decided to end communication previously because we lived in two separate states. I lived in South Carolina and he lived in Georgia, but actually we were not that far away. So, when he called me he told me that he investigated the distance through Google maps and concluded that it was not that far.

Mother of Penelope Grace, Griffin James, and Rosalie May
Born November 17th, 2009
Somerville, MA
My husband, Brendan and I met when we were in high school.  We dated through college and got married in October of 2006.  The following December we decided it was time to expand our family of 2.  After a year of trying on our own, we turned to fertility treatments.  We were prepared for this because I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 23.  After a few cycles, we hit the jackpot!  There were 4 sacs, but only 3 had heartbeats.  We were pregnant with triplets!

Naturally, we were nervous about raising three babies.  However, we knew could do it.  We made some sacrifices when we found out.  We moved back to our hometown to be closer to family because we were living an hour away.  We also found a new home for our dog, a great dane named Lucy.  She was a great dog and we loved her, but we were anticipating THREE babies and we didn’t want her to be neglected.

At my 17 week ultrasound, my high risk doctor noticed that my cervix was getting dangerously small.  After an emergency cerclage, I was put on home bed rest.  At follow up appointments however, my cervix continued to shorten.  We all remained optimistic.  I told my family not to cancel the baby shower even though I couldn’t go because that would be like giving up, and we weren’t giving up.  I stayed in the hospital for 5 days on bed rest when my cervix was only millimeters long.  After 5 days of no contractions, I was sent home for bed rest with the hopes of coming back to the hospital when I hit 23 weeks.  I didn’t make it that far.

After just hours of being home in bed, my water broke.  I called my husband who was out filling a prescription for me, he rushed home and drove me to the hospital.  We knew nothing could be done.  The doctor told us over and over, if you go into labor before 23 weeks, we can’t do anything for the babies.  We heard it, but we didn’t process it until we were in that moment.  I was only 20 weeks and 5 days.  We were losing our babies.

After hours of crying and thousands of questions, the inevitable was upon us.
On November 17, 2009 we delivered our three, precious, beautiful babies.  Penelope Grace, Griffin James and Rosalie May.

They were perfect.  They were our babies.  They made our family of two into a family of five.  Even now, almost exactly a year later, I am overwhelmed with love for them.

I still don’t know how I made it through that day and the days that followed.  Brendan and I are so lucky to have an amazing support system of family, friends and co-workers.  We know that our angel babies, Penny, Griff and Rosie are so loved.

We have cried a thousand tears, and I know we will cry some more.  It constantly amazes me how these three precious babies have changed my husband’s life and my life.  They have filled us with enough love to last a lifetime.
