Elizabeth

Mother to Ruby Josephine

Miscarried April 2010

Parker, Colorado

My husband and I had been married for 10 years and had one son. We suffered through infertility treatments for years and with no success we gave up on another child. I began to focus on building the career I had dreamed of and just as I could see my career on the horizon, we discovered we were pregnant. It seemed typical. People always said, “as soon as you stop trying to get pregnant, it will happen.” Well, it had been two years since we had “stopped” so the pregnancy very unexpected.

Mom to Hadley Elizabeth

August 4, 2010

Vine Grove, Kentucky

I was 6 weeks when I found out I was pregnant. From the moment I found out, my life changed forever. I wanted to make sure that I did all that I could to have a healthy baby and pregnancy. I really lost all appetite, but made myself eat for the sake of the baby. I would not go around people who smoked and I didn’t eat anything unhealthy. I was really ridiculous but I wanted everything to be perfect and to have a healthy baby.

Once upon a time… in a not so far away land, I met my prince charming and we were happily married. We had been together for six years the day we got married and we always knew our little family was not complete. We were ready to have a baby! Little did we know where the journey of our family would take us… [Read more…]

My life changed forever the moment I saw those two pink lines. My life changed forever again 7 weeks later when we found out that our first child had no heartbeat. I can honestly say that it was the worst day of my life so far. Although it is hard, I hope that sharing my story can give people an honest look into miscarriage and can help someone else who is going through their own loss.

Mom to Ethan Andrew, lost on March 23, 2010

Mom to “Little One,” lost in August 2010

St. Paul, Minnesota

I’m Emily. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome as a teenager, so we knew from the start that it might be difficult for us to conceive. I took my last birth control pill on my 24th birthday and we gave it a few months before asking my doctor for a little extra help. She wrote a prescription for Clomid and sent us on our way. About a week later, when the Clomid didn’t seem to be working, she referred us to a reproductive endocrinologist. Dr. C spent over an hour with us, explaining the plan and the medications. He wanted to reboot my system with a month of birth control pills but needed me to take a pregnancy test first. It was just a formality. I peed in the cup, set it in the little box and joined my husband Andrew to wait for the nurse to bring us the birth control pills. She never came. Instead, Dr. C dropped off a pregnancy test with two beautiful pink lines. We couldn’t believe it! Joy rushed in full force. [Read more…]

Mom to an Angel Baby

April 27, 2012

Lucerne Valley, California

I was 16 when I got pregnant. I found out the first week in March. I only told two people I was pregnant. My boyfriend, of course, and my cousin, Karissa, that I told all of my secrets. I trusted her with something that I thought she would keep a secret. But I was wrong. I went to school and everyone was staring and whispering when I passed. I heard people whispering, “I wonder if she’s going to keep it?” People called me a slut and a whore. My best friend at the time confronted me about being pregnant and told me I should get an abortion because I was “ruining my life.” Everyone knew: teachers, students, staff. I confronted my cousin and she said she told no one, which was the biggest lie. I let it go and called my dad to pick me up.

My husband(34) and I(32) will be married for 10 years on April 17, 2014. The following month(May) we will also approach the 10th year of trying to conceive our first child.

My story and our journey through losses starts back when I was diagnosed with PCOS(Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome at the age of 14. When diagnosed, I was told that it would be difficult if not completely impossible for me to have children. It scared me to death because I have always wanted to be a mother and always thought I would have a big family. [Read more…]

Amie

Mom to Little Ellie

Miscarried May 11, 2012

Lodi, Wisconsin

I am Amie. I am married to a wonderful man named Jeremy. We have two boys. Jeremy and I have been together for over 14 years. This is my first miscarriage. I am so sad and heartbroken. I know Jeremy is sad, too; I can see the hurt in his eyes as he tries not to show it. He is dealing with it in his own way. Christmas will be so hard. Ellie was due on December 8th. I can’t believe I will never hold her. I knew something wasn’t right a few weeks ago, but I tried to put it out of my mind. I have been waiting for this pregnancy and baby for so long that I tried like hell to ignore my instincts. When I started spotting on the Monday before, I knew I couldn’t ignore the signs anymore. As the bleeding progressed I started to become more scared. I call the OB nurse and she scheduled an ultrasound. I was 12 weeks along. Ellie had no heartbeat. Her gestational sac only measured 5 weeks and 4 days. She was gone. [Read more…]

Kelly

Mom to Angel Baby

Lost January 11, 2010

Franklin, NC

My husband and I were married for just over two years when we decided it was time to start a family. I had just finished graduate school and had been ready for a baby for a while by that point.  We were pleasantly surprised when we got pregnant on our first try in November of 2009.  At first everything seemed okay, but I really wasn’t having any pregnancy symptoms, other than the need to pee all the time.  At my first prenatal appointment the midwife confirmed that I was indeed pregnant, but it was a “weak positive” on the test.   I was only about 4.5 to 5 weeks along at the time and was set up for an ultrasound about a week later.   [Read more…]

Carissa
Angel #1 lost at six weeks on October 23rd, 2011
Angel #2 lost at six weeks and four days on February 11th, 2012

I should begin by telling you, admittedly, that up until this point in my life, I was a pretty lucky girl.

I came from a happy, nuclear family. I always had a small circle of great friends. I was fortunate to attend college, graduate in four (largely) uneventful years, and immediately find a teaching job while some of my peers were scrambling. I met my soul mate in college (although we knew one another in high school, but we hated each other then–another story for another blog post) and we had a nice, June wedding. During this time, I had misfortune in only one area–my health. Being overweight had been an attribute of mine for as long as I could remember. I went on diet after diet, but I would always lose a few pounds and then simply give up. I made excuses such as “It’s too close to the holidays”, or “I’m just too busy right now,” but the simple fact of the matter was that I simply lacked the desire to do it. It just wasn’t there. I liked to eat, and I hated to exercise–I knew I needed to do something, but I simply did nothing. It kind of pains me to admit that. [Read more…]

Miscarriage at 8 weeks on January 31, 2012

Hutchinson, Kansas

In May of 2008, after my husband and I both finished graduate school, we decided that we would start trying to add to our family. After a year we were referred to an RE to see why I still wasn’t pregnant.  It was then that I was diagnosed with PCOS.  After surgery, using a variety of meds (clomid, femara, ovidrel) and an IUI, I finally had a positive pregnancy test in November 2010.  We were overjoyed.  Thrilled beyond belief. And so, so thankful. [Read more…]

Mom to Little One

Miscarried on April 28, 2010 at 12 weeks

Rochester, NY

After almost three years of trying to have a baby brother or sister for our son we went back to fertility doctor and started the process of artificial insemination.  Taking the meds and getting poked and prodded and of course the lack of physical intimacy in creating this child with my husband is a difficult process emotionally for both of us.  However after the success of AI with our first son we knew that it was just a fact of our lives that this was how we are to conceive.   In March of 2010 we got a positive result after two rounds.  I scheduled my first appointment and went in to get our ultrasound.  Watching this little “bean’s” heartbeat on the monitor was amazing.  Just thinking of all the possibilities for our future son or daughter was an experience that I loved and remembered fondly with my first pregnancy, and at that moment over filled my heart again.  I went home and shared the photos that were printed with my husband and son, and began sharing the news with my family and friends. Mom to Lyla

Miscarried at 12w5d on October 29, 2011

Houston, Texas

My first pregnancy in 2010 with my daughter Lyla was very scary. We found out we were pregnant in January and were so excited! Everything was good until March. I had an extreme amount of bleeding that I woke up to at 2 am one night. I was only 13 weeks. I was so scared but never gave up hope for my baby. I was in and out of the doctor’s office and E.R. that day getting ultrasounds. No one could figure out why I was bleeding the way I was, and some believed I was going to miscarry. The only explanation was that they found that I have a bicornuate uterus (heart-shaped) and maybe that was the cause for the bleeding. They could see the baby, always fine and dancing, in the right horn and a large bleed in the left horn that was about 8 cm.  I was put on complete bedrest to wait it out at home. Once the bleeding subsided after a few days, I starting getting severe cramping/contractions and started passing large blood clots. I was so scared, but still never gave up hope. I remember calling the nurse and asking her about what was going on and she said that if I was going to miscarry, there was nothing they could do. That made me really upset. [Read more…]

My Husband and I met very early in life and wasted no time starting a life together, we bought our first home when I was 18 and got married a year later in a beautiful Summer Wedding witnessed by 200 friends and Family. The cluckiness quickly set in for me soon after the wedding. A little over a year later we found ourselves stepping up to be full time foster carers of a relatives children. Over the year they were with us we learnt how much love, joy and understanding children can bring to your life, even under difficult circumstances. I married the love of my life on May 18th 2007. From the first day I met him I know I was going to marry him. We married young– me being 19 and him 21. We knew we wanted kids and in Feb of 2008 we decided to start trying.  After many months and negative pregnancy tests, because of course every month I thought I was pregnant… we started to get concerned.  After a year of TTC and nothing went to see my OB/GYN and May of 2009 was diagnosed with PCOS ( polycystic ovarian syndrome)  Instead of taking Metformin we decided to try the natural way first. I’m not a huge fan of perscription drugs. [Read more…]

This is the chronicle of the brief life of a little person. As her mother, I feel like it is my duty to chronicle it.
