Mom to Raven, aka “Baby Bird”

April 1, 2014

Kingsport, Tennessee

My story is short, but certainly not very sweet. On March 9th of 2014,my boyfriend and I found out that we were pregnant with our first child. As the days went by, our happiness grew and grew. We were so excited to see our baby. On March 11, 2014, we went to the health department to get it confirmed. Sure enough, we were pregnant. As soon as I found out, my emotions went crazy. I was scared, nervous, excited, and worried; worried about how I was going to tell everybody. Soon the fears went away, and I got up the strength to tell everyone; all except for my boyfriend’s family. To this day they still do not know.

When I was 17 years old, I found out I was pregnant. I was terrified, but excited. The entire pregnancy was perfect, resulting in a beautiful healthy little boy. A year and a half later, I found out I was pregnant again. Of course, I thought everything would be just as easy. How naive I was. Less than a week after I’d found out, I started spotting. I went to the ER, where blood work was done (twice, since they lost it!) as well as an emergency ultrasound. After the technician did her measurements, she turned the screen to me and showed me my perfect little bean, with a good strong heartbeat.

I’ve been with my high school sweetheart since 2005. After many ups and downs of regular life, we decided to get married in 2012. It was a dream come true, but of course we were now ready to take yet another step forward – children.

After suffering a miscarriage in April 2013, we were thrilled to find out that we were again pregnant in July. We were expecting a son April 15, 2014. We couldn’t have been any happier. Our family and friends showered us with gifts, love and support. We spent hours designing and building a nursery and converting our house to welcome out baby boy. Everything throughout the pregnancy was perfect. I had little nausea and fatigue, I worked out lightly throughout the entire pregnancy and made sure to take vitamins and eat well. On March 25th, I began having contractions. I planned on having a natural birth, but Liam had other plans. His heart rate wasn’t as strong as they wanted it to be for any pain medication. After monitoring him for some time he seemed to become distressed and aspirated meconium. It was time for a cesarean.

My husband and I had only been trying to get pregnant for about 3 months when I got my positive pregnancy test. It was Sunday morning and I woke my husband by saying, “Get up and ready for church! We need to go thank God for our baby!” and gave him the positive test. We were both ecstatic and took pictures of ourselves holding the test with big grins on our faces.

On September 25, 2012 my boyfriend and I found out I was pregnant. We were both happy and anxious. A day before Halloween I had my first ultrasound. I couldn’t believe it- seeing my baby on the screen and thinking, “that’s my little one”. I was 10 weeks. I asked the doctor if we were going to hear the heartbeat and he said no. We went home and showed our family.  I couldn’t explain the happiness I felt inside. I [was] only 20 years old, but I was ready to give up everything for my baby.

After being unsuccessful at becoming pregnant naturally, we conceived in our first round of IVF, after implanting one egg, which subsequently split and graced us with expecting identical twin girls.

During our 19-week scan, we were told that one of our twins showed abnormalities in her kidneys. After our scan, the girls got fed up being called ‘twin 1’ and ‘twin 2’ and we chose Angel cards to give them names in utero. Since then, we referred to them as Passion and Hope – very synchronistic, as twin 2 chose Hope and she was the one dealing with her malformed kidneys.

My journey began when my first son was born blue, and somehow survived after a long labor and heart fluctuations, in June 2007. October, 2008, we found out after a trip to the ER that I was pregnant with an ectopic pregnancy. I had been on birth control pills, and I had no idea what “ectopic” meant, but we were told to “wait it out” or I could take a shot that would speed up the process. A few days later, I had the shot. It was a hard thing.. but I imagined these things happened, and I blamed myself a lot. [Read more…]

My husband(34) and I(32) will be married for 10 years on April 17, 2014. The following month(May) we will also approach the 10th year of trying to conceive our first child.

My story and our journey through losses starts back when I was diagnosed with PCOS(Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome at the age of 14. When diagnosed, I was told that it would be difficult if not completely impossible for me to have children. It scared me to death because I have always wanted to be a mother and always thought I would have a big family. [Read more…]

My husband and I were married September 19, 2009, and we were elated to find out that we were pregnant 2 short months after marriage. I was horribly sick with morning sickness, but I didn’t care; I was going to be a mother. At a routine Doctor’s appointment, my Doctor tried to find the heartbeat, he couldn’t, so just in case, he sent us to get an ultrasound at the local hospital. He said there’s nothing to worry about, it’s just routine. I was excited that I was able to see my baby on the big screen earlier than expected. When we arrived, and got the ultrasound done, the nurse could not hide her concern. I knew something was wrong, and she wouldn’t tell me. An hour later, our Doctor called, and told us our baby had a mass in her abdomen, and they didn’t know what it was. She was also much smaller than she should be for how far along I was. They sent us down to the hospital in Victoria, and the nurse there hid her emotions well. She showed us our baby, her head, her feet, her face. Then she left, and the Doctor came in. And he said those horrible words. I can still hear them ringing in my ears; “I’m sorry. Your baby has died.” [Read more…]

September 13, 2012 – September 17, 2012

Grand Rapids, Michigan

My husband and I decided to start a family in January of 2011. I promptly went off the pill and hoped that I would get pregnant quickly. It took about a year for me to finally get a positive reading, and 4 short weeks after that happened, I found out I was having a miscarriage. That was January 2012. Things weren’t progressing on their own, so I had a D&C on January 11, 2012. I was devastated and convinced the only thing that would take away the pain was getting pregnant again as soon as possible. So, in April, when we could try again, my husband and I went to Europe on vacation and the day we returned home I took another test and found out I was pregnant for the second time. [Read more…]

My journey began in August of 2010 when I found out I was pregnant after just six months of trying. I was stunned that it happened so easily and quickly. We didn’t chart, take my temperature or use any Ovulation Predictor Kits. I simply went off birth control, relaxed, had fun and it happened! My husband and I were so excited. I was already 8 weeks along when I found out, because I’d had some spotting that I thought was my period. [Read more…]

Finding out you’re expecting is probably one of the most exciting things for a couple. My husband, John, and I decided that we would stop trying to prevent and just let nature take its course. Never in a million years would I think I would get pregnant right away.

It’s funny how your body will let you know before a HPT: frequent trips to the bathroom, tender body parts. I just knew something was different. Three tests later a few days before AF was even supposed to start, we had positive results.

Our first baby, what could be more exciting than this? We knew about the 12 week announcement rule, but we had to tell our closest family members and friends about it. [Read more…]

Lost October 2012

I was 19 when I found out I was pregnant for the first time. I was nervous and kind of scared when I found out. My boyfriend at the time wasn’t much of a boyfriend, as he had cheated on me a few times before, he had no job, and no place to live, since I kicked him out when I had found out he cheated. Why I was attracted to him in the first place eludes me now. The only reason I can think of why I reconnected with him after his infidelity, was that I was young, lonely, naive, and he was my first.

I didn’t know what I was going to do. I always dreamed of being a mother, but I didn’t know of I could do it on my own. My sister, a single mother herself, was a huge support for me, and I looked to her for advice before deciding anything. She was the example I saw that conviction me that I could do this; I could have this baby. [Read more…]

As long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a mother. When my husband and I got married, we knew we didn’t want to wait long for kids. We decided to wait a year, but were OK with it happening before that. Once we decided to “officially” try for a baby, we were excited, hoping it would happen quickly for us. When it didn’t happen several months later, we began trying different supplements, etc. and grew more and more discouraged. [Read more…]

After having my daughter, I spent a few years trying to figure out the health problems that I was having. When we finally felt comfortable to try again for another little one, it took over a year to get pregnant. Thirteen long months. I was so relieved and excited when I felt off one morning, and had a positive pregnancy test later that day. The next day, I found out that my husband had been laid off. I felt sick. How were we going to afford this baby?  Otherwise, things were going well.  I felt “pregnant”. I hadn’t thrown up, but my stomach wouldn’t settle. I had told my daughter, and my mother. I started feeling like nesting, and was knitting little baby hats in neutral colors.  I had scheduled my first OB appointment. [Read more…]

Madilyn Jo, miscarried in 2012 at 10 weeks

Olathe, Kansas

In June 2011, we found out I was pregnant. I had an array of mixed emotions. We had a full apartment with my 2 kids, ages 12 and 14 at the time, we had just had a baby in December 2010, and my fiancé’s daughter was living with us, who was pregnant and due in October. Being I just had a baby in December and was still breastfeeding, I hadn’t had a menstrual cycle yet, so my doctor wanted an ultrasound to see how far along I was and to find my due date. We had our first ultrasound and all those mixed emotions went away…there was our baby-to-be, right there on the screen. At that point, I knew we’d be ok; everything would work out. The technician put me about 4 weeks gestation, and really too soon to confirm a due date, so my doctor ordered another ultrasound for two weeks out to look for growth and an approximate due date then. We left and became so excited about our news, and immedately started telling family and friends. [Read more…]
