Amber

Mom to Gunner Cruz

Born still April 19, 2012 at 27 weeks

Morrison, Tennessee

I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks on November 10, 2011. It was the most exciting day! I took 3 pregnancy tests just make sure I wasn’t imagining it. I surprised my husband when he got home by leaving the pregnancy tests on the bathroom counter. We were both so excited and already making plans for our future with this new chapter of our lives. We told our families we were expecting on Thanksgiving Day, 2 weeks later. I’ll never forget the feeling of telling everyone else, pure joy! [Read more…]

Bridget

Mom to angels lost in June 2011 and January 2012

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

In the past year I have been pregnant 5 times.  Each pregnancy has been different, unique in its own way.  Each has changed me and forced me to become a more accepting, understanding and patient person.  May 2, 2011 I found out I was pregnant for the first time.  It was unplanned but a welcomed surprise.  During this pregnancy I was naive – positive, hopeful and unaware of the possibility of loss.  We were thrilled to see the heartbeat and growing baby but weeks later the heartbeat stopped.  Closure for this pregnancy was the easiest of all because I got married 2 weeks later.  My pain was turned to joy and excitement…and so began our life of TTC – ovulation kits, lots of sex and hundreds of pregnancy tests. My name is Alex and I am the proud Mommy of 2 angels.

Baby 1 was my first loss and I never had the chance to have an ultrasound. All I had was the pregnancy test. This was my very 1st pregnancy and it was really hard to deal with. I was about 8 weeks pregnant, estimated, when I started bleeding really bad. It was gone. [Read more…]

Sarah

Mom to América

Lost at 9 weeks October 24, 2011

Seville, Spain (originally from Walpole, Massachusettes)

I am American, living abroad in Spain.  We found out on September 14th, 2011 that I was pregnant with our much-desired baby number 2.  Our firstborn, Manuela, was just eleven months old, but truth be told, we had been trying since soon after she joined us.  There was “no rush” but we did want them to be close together in age (they would have been 19 months apart).  We were thrilled with the positive result and began to make plans for our new baby’s early May arrival. Donna

Mom to Baby Sawtelle

Lost September 14, 2005

Etna, Maine

My name is Donna. I met my husband Jerry through a mutual friend of ours, and I think I had some idea right from the start that we would spend the rest of our lives together.

I always knew, ever since I was a little girl, that I wanted to be a mother.  I had a book that chronicled my school years when I was young, and for every year there was a section in the book asking what you wanted to be when you grew up.  I had some of the typical things, nurse, movie star, etc.  But I always put “Mommy.” [Read more…]

Elizabeth

Mom to Bean Bunny

Lost on February 24, 2012

Decatur, Illinois

My husband and I found out January 7, 2012 that we were expecting our first child. We were so excited and happy.

After my first doctors appointment we learned that my gestational sac was empty and our baby had stopped developing very early on. We waited two weeks for another doctor since the first showed no sympathy, not even a simple “sorry”. So after seeing the second doctor who was much kinder, he informed us that the sac was still empty and now starting to collapse. We had been grieving already for the past two weeks and decided to do a d&c the next morning with the new doctor. I would have been one day short of 11 weeks. I miss my baby so much and it hurts when people think that because the sac was empty that there never was a baby, because there was they just didn’t make it past a couple of weeks. I grieve for my first child and dream of him or her playing in a field of daffodils (my favorite flower) in Heaven.

Elizabeth

Mom to baby

Miscarried January 14, 2012 at 12 weeks

Mount Airy, Maryland

January 18, 2012

Fear, Sadness, Anger, Emptiness. This is how I felt when I heard the news that my baby I had been carrying for 12 weeks did not have a heartbeat. This was the worst news I had ever heard.

My husband and I had been trying to conceive for about a year. Finally, in mid-November on a Saturday evening I went to the bathroom and there it was… two lines showed in the window of a pregnancy test. The happiness and joy running through my body was overwhelming. I showed the miracle to my husband and we started to tear up with joy. Our dream had finally come true after many rounds of Clomid and nights of crying endlessly.

Mom to Hannah Grace

Due June 23, 2012
Went to Heaven December 19, 2011

Fresno, California

My husband and I always talked about having a baby together one day. We have been together for 7 years, married for almost 4 years. Each of us has a daughter from previous relationships so a baby would blend our families completely.  We had not been planning on getting pregnant but on October 8th I found out, I was pregnant. I was a day late and didn’t think it was even possible since we were using birth control. I decided to take a pregnancy test and it was positive. I took three more tests in amazement, all were positive. I told my husband, who at first was in shock himself. When we told the kids, they were so excited about the new addition to our family. I was beyond thrilled because at 38-years-old I didn’t know if I would get pregnant right away because I had already known that I suffered from hormone imbalance and low progesterone. I called my OB immediately and she placed me on progesterone supplements for the first 12 weeks for my pregnancy. I had morning sickness, fatigue and started to show right so it was hard to keep quiet for long. [Read more…]

Jodi

Mom to a little one

Lost to ectopic pregnancy October 2008

Akron, Ohio

At nineteen years old I was diagnosed with PCOS. I was told many different things from many different doctors, ranging from, “You will never be able to have children,” to “The only way I tell someone they will never have children is if they do not have a uterus.” December 25, 2007, at the age of 33, I found out I was pregnant (exactly 17 weeks 4 days…yes I missed my entire first trimester!). I had defied the odds that were against me…this was a miracle!! At this point I was single, finishing grad school and a full time teacher. May 29, 2008, Jacob came into this world and today he is a healthy, happy, intelligent light in my world!!

Mamma to Spencer Ty

October 19, 2011

Perth, Western Australia

My husband and I found out we were pregnant with our first in March 2011. We have been together for 16 years (since the early days of high school), so it was about time and we were elated. It was a very long, complicated pregnancy (Downs Syndrome scare, some baby kidney and heart problems – all of which turned out to be fine), but at 29 weeks they told us we could finally relax and start to enjoy the pregnancy. We did and went out and got everything we needed for our little boy, and oh how exciting it all was! [Read more…]

Miscarried June 10th, 2010

Ephrata, PA

April of 2010 was not only a shocking time for my then fiance and I but also a joyous time. We learned that we were expecting our first child after an irresponsible night in March. After we got over the initial shock that we were pregnant, joy and excitement came into play. I started to think of names for our little bundle of joy and my fiance started to guess what he thought the baby would be. I was finishing up a semester at college and was out of the state.

Kimberly

Mom to baby lost November 20, 2011

Spring Hill, Florida

My story starts like most do. My husband and I had been “trying” to get pregnant for 4 years. Around August we decided to track my cycle for a few months and see what happens. Early October (our wedding anniversary month) we decided to give it a good try. I tracked when I should ovulate, and according to that we tried. It was a successful month…on October 22nd I took an early pregnancy test. I looked at the test, disappointed by what I saw, placed it down on the counter and walked away. A few minutes later something told me to go back in and check it out…sure enough there was that amazing 2nd line, very faint but it was there. I immediately showed my hubby, and while we were nervous we decided that this was our time. The next morning I had to be to work early so I ran by good ol’ Walmart and grabbed 2 more boxes of tests. During the next few days I continued to test, and the line became darker. I tested fairly early, so it took about 4 days to get that really beautiful dark 2nd line.

Lauren

Mom to her little one

D&C November 9th, 2011

Montclair, New Jersey

Our rollercoaster ride began almost immediately after our wedding in late June 2011.  That August, after having not gotten my period since two days after our wedding, I began to see medical professionals to find out why 1. I had not gotten my period and 2. I was feeling so tired, nauseous, and dizzy. I took lots of pregnancy tests and they all came out negative. In mid-September the symptoms had vanished and I got an ultrasound done that confirmed I had a cyst on my ovary and we were told it was unlikely I would be able to ovulate with it there. We were also told to wait a few weeks more and if I didn’t get a period that they would start me on a medication to induce my period to start. I began feeling all those symptoms again and took yet another pregnancy test just to check and it came out positive!  We were ecstatic!  It wasn’t in our plan but after all of this uncertainty it was a welcome, happy outcome.

Nicole

Mom to Gracen Maize

Born asleep May 3, 2011

Mount Pleasant, Michigan

My story initially starts in October 2010 – the 25th to be exact. That was the day we got our first positive pregnancy test after 16 months of actively trying. We were blissfully excited until about 5 weeks along when I started spotting. Beta draws revealed that the numbers weren’t doubling like they should have been. An ultrasound at 6 weeks determined there to be nothing in the sac. My OB suspected a blighted ovum. We scheduled another ultrasound for a week later. The night before the ultrasound, I miscarried, on my own, at 7 weeks.
