After 2 early pregnancy losses within a few months, I became pregnant again with high hopes. In February 2017, my husband and I were so scared but blessed and so excited at the same time to finally have the luxury of being parents. At my first appointment, I was 6 weeks pregnant. I was so terrified waiting on the doctor to come in to do my ultrasound. After having such bad luck with my other 2 pregnancies (one chemical and one blighted ovum), I was so full of hope. [I was] praying continuously for a heartbeat. I saw the flicker before my doctor could even measure the baby’s heart beat. I began to cry with joy.

We were so happy. Her heartbeat was 109 bpm, strong and healthy! I went in routinely as this was a high risk pregnancy because of the recurrent losses I’ve suffered. Everything was perfect. At 7 weeks, my baby was able to move around (couldn’t feel her yet) but we could see it on the screen at every appointment; she was very active. No problems at all. She grew fast. I had severe morning sickness up until I was 12 weeks. I went in for my NT scan. She was wiggling everywhere. She wouldn’t sit still for the scan, lol. My perfect active baby! I was so happy, happier than I’d ever been. I also had bloodwork done to check the baby for genetic defects, down syndrome and to find out the gender. The scan came back at 14 weeks, negative for any defects and I was told we were expecting a healthy and happy BABY GIRL!!! I was over the moon excited. [Read more…]

Mom to an Unexpected Angel

May 27, 2013

Charleston, West Virginia

October 2012- Our second little boy E was born at home, welcomed by Daddy, Mommy, and big brother D who was nearly 2 1/2. We knew this wasn’t the end of our journey, but for now we were happy and planned to have our third baby when E was 3 or 4 years old.

This time, we decided to use FAM as our only method of birth control. Since I didn’t get my period back for 10 months after I had D and had anovulatory cycles (until I completely weaned him a month before E was conceived), I didn’t bother with charting right away.

My journey began when my first son was born blue, and somehow survived after a long labor and heart fluctuations, in June 2007. October, 2008, we found out after a trip to the ER that I was pregnant with an ectopic pregnancy. I had been on birth control pills, and I had no idea what “ectopic” meant, but we were told to “wait it out” or I could take a shot that would speed up the process. A few days later, I had the shot. It was a hard thing.. but I imagined these things happened, and I blamed myself a lot. [Read more…]

My journey began in August of 2010 when I found out I was pregnant after just six months of trying. I was stunned that it happened so easily and quickly. We didn’t chart, take my temperature or use any Ovulation Predictor Kits. I simply went off birth control, relaxed, had fun and it happened! My husband and I were so excited. I was already 8 weeks along when I found out, because I’d had some spotting that I thought was my period. [Read more…]

I cannot remember a time when I did not dream of being a mother.

In December 2010 my husband and I decided to start our family. I went to the OB in February and had a prenatal checkup before we started actively trying. Everything came back perfect and we were given the green light to start our family. On Mother’s Day 2011 I got my first positive pregnancy test. It was very faint but it was a positive. I was cautiously excited. It was a Sunday and both of my best friends got positive pregnancy tests that same day. I tried so hard to be excited but I didn’t feel well. I was having some spotting, but everyone kept telling me it was normal. Unfortunately, two days later I started bleeding. My doctor saw me that day and did some lab work. He confirmed a chemical pregnancy. My heart hurt, I was so ready to be a mom. [Read more…]

It’s so difficult to share the story of loss.  No words seem to do it justice.  Here’s my attempt.

In the fall of 2010 we learned I was pregnant after nine months of trying for our second child. The pregnancy progressed just as nicely as the first. But, 19 weeks into our pregnancy, everything changed. [Read more…]

I was 39 had been TTC for almost a year.  I finally went to the fertility clinic and spent a lot of money on tests that were not covered by my medical insurance just to find out that I had an FSH of 18 and was perimenopausal.  I had diminished ovarian reserve.  I could take Clomid and to help me ovulate.  I took it and got pregnant the very first cycle on it.  [Read more…]

Loss #1: (First Trimester Loss)

In July 2008 I found out we were pregnant with our 2nd child. It was a surprise but we were excited nonetheless. That excitement quickly ended after only a couple weeks when I started bleeding. I called my husband who was at work..I was crying so hard I’m surprised even understood me. I called my doctor and explained that I was bleeding and worried. She told me if it was brown or light pinkish blood it was most likely old blood and I was fine. However, if it is red blood that means it is fresh and could mean a miscarriage. Mine was bright red. I freaked out and we headed straight for the ER. [Read more…]

Miscarriage Confirmed July 28th, 2010

Temple, Texas

This month marks the 3 year anniversary of when my husband and I started “trying” to conceive. It didn’t always feel like trying because by March of 09 I began charting and shortly after I identified a problem–I wasn’t ovulating. After some time, a visit to a few doctors, I discovered that I had hyperprolactinemia and after a 6 month hold-out from my doctor, finally he agreed to remove the medication that was causing it. I ovulated 2 weeks later! Then in July 2010, on my mother’s birthday and week before mine, I got a positive pregnancy test. It was light, but I was testing quite early. The digital confirmed it. I was so excited I was hyperventilating at first. Then I sent a picture to my husband. The due date was about 2-3 days before his birthday. We had nicknamed our little one “monkey” because it was all the rage in baby items at the time. [Read more…]

Early Miscarriage, August 17th, 2011

I am Monica.  I’m 28 and had been on the pill for about 12-ish years.  I recently married Kevin, the love of my life, on May 28 and I stopped taking the pill as soon as we came back from our honeymoon.  We had talked about having children for a long time and were anxious to start our family.  I was really surprised (that it happened so fast) and super excited to see what I thought was a positive pregnancy test on 8/10/11… I was so nervous that I bought a digital test on 8/11/11… “PREGNANT”… there was no questioning that… and I was thrilled!  My husband was so excited! Missed Miscarriage – November 2009

In identical multiple pregnancies, there is one placenta and multiple umbilical cords. Each cord holds either two or three blood vessels, and carries blood and nutrients to each baby.

In Twin to Twin Transfusion, one baby (the recipient) has one of the other baby’s (the donor) blood vessels in their umbilical cord. This can also be caused by the babies sharing unequal parts of the placenta. Because of the unequal sharing of nutrients, the donor baby grows rapidly faster than the donor, and a size difference is usually the first indication that TTTS is taking place.  [Read more…]

My husband and I got married in April of 2009 and because we were both over 35, we decided to start trying to have a baby right away.  I went off birth control in May and we started trying in July of 09.  I really didn’t think I would have any trouble conceiving, as I have a daughter from a previous relationship, although she was 18 years old at the time and I realized that my age might bring more complications.

Baby girl Maes– missed miscarriage March 11, 2010 at 10 weeks

In spring of 2009 after 7 months of TTC my husband and I were finally blessed with a baby. We were elated to be expecting our first baby. We knew pregnancy would be complicated due to my preexisting diabetes. My OB was on top of it and worked hard getting my insurance to approve a state funded program for pregnant diabetics to control my blood sugars as well as diet.

The pregnancy progressed fine. At 6 weeks we saw our baby heartbeat flickering away. At 9 weeks we saw our baby bouncing all over as we had an ultrasound. The baby was measuring a little small, but my OB said there were no worries. I got into the Sweet Success program and was immediately started on insulin injections and met with the nutritionist to set up my diet plan. In the meantime I was awaiting approval from my insurance to see the perinatologist. I started my insulin and over the next couple of weeks my sugars were under control.

On July 14, 2009 at 15 weeks I went to the perinatologist and have a level 2 ultrasound. I was excited that maybe we would see the sex of the baby. My husband couldn’t get off of work but he told me to find out the sex if they were able and bring home pictures for him. As they put the probe on my belly I knew instantly something wasn’t right.

After five happy years of marriage, my husband Jason and I decided that it was time to expand our family.  Boy, were we surprised when I got pregnant immediately!  I got my BFP on a Saturday morning.  We and I were both standing in the bathroom, watching as the two lines began to materialize on the test.  We were nervous but excited!  I called my OB and scheduled my first appointment.  It was basically a consult visit.  I remember sitting in an office to find out what insurance would cover, then having bloodwork drawn.  I signed all sorts of forms.  We left with hospital information packets and formula samples.  We were on Cloud 9!
