Bethany

Three ectopic pregnancies:

January 8, 2009 (9 weeks),

January 8, 2010 (5 weeks),

and

December 13, 2011 (5w5d with a heartbeat)

Mercersburg, Pennsylvania

My name is Bethany Anderson. My husband and I live in a small rural community in Pennsylvania called Mercersburg. I am twenty-two years-old and my husband, Thomas, is twenty-eight. Thomas and I have been together for almost 5 years and we were married in August of 2011. We have a dog, which is like my child, Chino Taco Anderson. My husband has a son, named Cadon, who is now 6 years old. Although I wish he would be with us every single day, he lives with his mother and we don’t get to see him as often as we’d like. We were told the only way for us to conceive after our extremely difficult losses, was through in-vitro fertilization.   This is our infertility story. [Read more...]

Baby girls 2 & 3
EDD March 26, 2012, D&C September 18, 2012

Glendale, California

Finding out you’re expecting is probably one of the most exciting things for a couple. My husband, John, and I decided that we would stop trying to prevent and just let nature take its course. Never in a million years would I think I would get pregnant right away.

It’s funny how your body will let you know before a HPT: frequent trips to the bathroom, tender body parts. I just knew something was different. Three tests later a few days before AF was even supposed to start, we had positive results.

Our first baby, what could be more exciting than this? We knew about the 12 week announcement rule, but we had to tell our closest family members and friends about it. [Read more...]

Unnamed baby
Lost October 2012

Saint Paul Park, Minnesota

I was 19 when I found out I was pregnant for the first time. I was nervous and kind of scared when I found out. My boyfriend at the time wasn’t much of a boyfriend, as he had cheated on me a few times before, he had no job, and no place to live, since I kicked him out when I had found out he cheated. Why I was attracted to him in the first place eludes me now. The only reason I can think of why I reconnected with him after his infidelity, was that I was young, lonely, naive, and he was my first.

I didn’t know what I was going to do. I always dreamed of being a mother, but I didn’t know of I could do it on my own. My sister, a single mother herself, was a huge support for me, and I looked to her for advice before deciding anything. She was the example I saw that conviction me that I could do this; I could have this baby. [Read more...]

In February I had run out of birth control. After a period didn’t start I took several pregnancy tests before starting a new pack. I kept getting negatives. Well, once my period was over a week late I went and saw my doctor to have her test. I didn’t want to start a new pack of birth control without making sure I wasn’t pregnant. After doing a blood draw and waiting for what felt like forever, my doctor called me in. She showed me the screen, and sure enough I was pregnant. My hCG numbers were extremely low, so she asked me to come back in 2 days for a redraw to make sure they were going up. While it wasn’t a planned pregnancy, I was so excited! Two days later I went back in and my numbers had tripled. I drove home that day feeling so blessed and an overwhelming amount of love for my husband and 9-month old son. We took no time announcing our pregnancy to family. [Read more...]

Mom to twins

Lost June 28, 2012, between 7 and 9 weeks’ gestation

Hickory, North Carolina

I want to start with my good things. Between me and my spouse, we have 7 healthy , happy (for the most part) children, 3 each from previous marriages and 1 together, ranging from age 22 down to 3. He has a set of identical twins that will be 16 this year. We are blessed. Therefore…it was shocking to us while being on the pill to get a positive home test on June 5, 2012. Two more positive tests at home to follow, but I was bleeding and spotting so I went to the doctor. June 6, they did a vaginal exam and drew blood for hCG. I was pregnant. But a follow up hCG on June 8 was next. When I went in, they did another vaginal exam and decided based on info I did not know yet – my hCG was high – to do an ultrasound. [Read more...]

Fort Worth, Texas

If you would have asked me when I was 20 where I would be in 5 years, the answer would have come out loud and clear: having babies.  There was never a doubt in my mind that my purpose in life was to become a mom and when I met my husband, Gabriel, when I was 24, I knew that that purpose was going to be fulfilled.  I loved my life; I was living in Hawaii, working at Tripler Army Medical Center as a Licensed Practical Nurse. I had been in the Army for 6 years, and had found exactly who I was.  Meeting Gabe was like the icing on the cake. Once we started dating, we knew that we wanted to have children, which was on the table even before getting married was. Luckily for us, 8 months later we found out we were pregnant.  I was back in Texas when I found out the news. I called Gabe, who was still in Hawaii, and told him, “You are going to be a daddy!”  We were both so incredibly excited!  We were getting married in just over a month, so it was perfect.  I couldn’t believe what the doctor was telling me, so I went home and took at least 10-15more pregnancy tests; all of them were a clear positive! Life was good. We immediately told everyone, Facebook and all.  I would sit there drawing hearts on my tummy, with a smile on my face.  Each week I would write a quick update on what went on that week and how I was feeling; all the excitement that was building. Mom to Caleb Dean

Born April 16, 2012

Indiana

My husband and I started having children almost as soon as we got married.  At our first wedding anniversary, we announced that we were pregnant with our first daughter.  Our family was thrilled, and so were we!  We went on to have four children, two girls and two boys.  When our oldest daughter was 11, our youngest son 4, and I was 35, we decided to have another baby.  Everything had always been textbook normal with my other pregnancies, and we expected nothing less.  We announced to the world that we were pregnant at 4 weeks.  In September 2011 at 9 weeks, I began bleeding and found out that I had miscarried our child.  We were devastated, but having to share the grief with our children was terrible.  Sad and disappointed doesn’t cover it. I am American, living abroad in Spain.  We found out on September 14th, 2011 that I was pregnant with our much-desired baby number 2.  Our firstborn, Manuela, was just eleven months old, but truth be told, we had been trying since soon after she joined us.  There was “no rush” but we did want them to be close together in age (they would have been 19 months apart).  We were thrilled with the positive result and began to make plans for our new baby’s early May arrival. My Story:

In May 2010 my husband and I decided to ditch my birth control bills and start trying to conceive.  After three months went by with no period, I wasn’t the least bit surprised because I had long cycles as a teenager and always knew something was wrong with me and that someday I’d likely have trouble conceiving.  My ob/gyn ran some blood tests, and in October 2010 I was diagnosed with PCOS. San Jose, California

My husband and I decided to start trying for a family in December 2009. We tried for 6 months to conceive our first. I temped, charted, drank tea and Pom juice, the works. It felt like it took forever! And the feeling of seeing those two pink lines for the very first time is something I will never forget. No matter how many times those lines show up again it will also never be the same as that first time. [Read more...]

Natural miscarriage 7 weeks 5 days on October 13, 2011
(EDD May 28, 2012)

Misoprostal-assisted miscarriage 9 weeks 3 day on January 16, 2012
(EDD August 17, 2012)

Washington, Illinois

My husband and I were married in January 2009. He came with three children from previous relationships and we had planned on having one of our own and working on that within the first year of marriage. Because of some things going on in my life at that time, we pushed it back a couple of years and in November 2010, I went off the pill and we were just going to stop preventing to see what happened. By August of 2011, nothing had happened, so we tried OPKs and got our first positive pregnancy test on September 15. We were elated. Our EDD was 5/28/12, which we thought would be perfect. The baby would be here before summer got too hot and it would be nice enough that birthday parties could be held outside, etc. On October 4, at 6 weeks, 2 days, we had our first prenatal appointment and all we could see on the ultrasound was a gestational sac and yolk sac measuring less than five weeks. They took a beta draw which confirmed the pregnancy was not viable. I was given the choice of having a D&C, taking Cytotec/Misoprostol, or waiting for a natural miscarriage. I chose to wait and see and within a few days I began spotting. The spotting was very off and on for about five days. Once things really started happening, it lasted 14 hours and was over. Our first angel left us on 10/13/11 when it should have been 7w5d. [Read more...]

“Baby Angel” lost at 9 weeks

My husband and I went to our infertility specialist after 4 years of marriage and struggling to become parents. I was diagnosed with PCOS. We decided on an IUI and were pleasantly surprised to find out we were pregnant on the first try! We were over the moon and I was very cautious. When we went in for our first ultrasound we saw there was no heartbeat, and I naturally miscarried a week later. It was devastating. [Read more...]

Miscarried at 9 weeks 2 days

on December 23, 2010

Leominster, MA

My husband and I married right out of college but gave ourselves a good 3 years to get our feet on the ground and enjoy being a couple. In January of 2009, after years of fighting recurrent ovarian cysts, mood swings and just feeling plain ole crazy, I decided to go off the pill. We threw caution to the wind and left it to fate. We never focused on getting pregnant, but deep down hoped it would happen. There were months when I would see a faint line that would disappear days later. (I now know I was having chemical pregnancies.)
