Mom to Joel

Born sleeping March 30, 2011

Croydon, Victoria, Australia

My husband and I started trying to conceive in March 2010. It took us five months to conceive Joel. I tested on the first day my period was due and it came back negative. I waited five days and tried again on the 13th of August and it came back positive. I showed the positive test to my husband who was half asleep and obviously he couldn’t go back to sleep [after finding out]. We immediately started thinking of names. It took me awhile to get used to it as I have anxiety and depression and take a while to adjust to change.

Mom to Naima Kali

Birth Date: March 25, 2011
Angel Day: August 3, 2011

Bay Area, California

Naima was my firstborn and only child (so far) and the light of my life. I had a normal and easy pregnancy with her, which as an older mom (I was 38 when I got pregnant) made me feel so blessed and happy. My husband, Henry, and I had waited a long time to get pregnant but I had wanted a child for many many years, so I was so happy to finally have a baby to look forward to. Naima was born on her due date (a rare occurrence I was told) after about twelve hours of active, natural labor. She cried as soon as she was born, and even lifted her head to look me straight in the eyes after they placed her on my chest! I knew from even the time she was in my belly that she was a gentle, wise and special soul.

Mom to Olivia Madilynn

Stillborn November 23, 2011

Asher James September 10- October 23, 2012.

Schaumburg, IL

In June 2011, I found out I was pregnant and I was beyond excited. I told everyone right away and started planning the nursery. I couldn’t wait to find out what we were having, hoping for a little girl. We started picking out names and could only agree on a girl’s name – Olivia Madilynn. On my husband’s birthday, we found out we were having a little girl. I started making cute things for her and for her room. Even though I wasn’t due ’til February, our families had our baby showers in November. We received so many cute things for this little girl. I couldn’t wait till she was here and she could wear all the cute things but that all changed the week of Thanksgiving when I was 27 weeks.

Mom to Lilly

March 21, 2011

Phoenix, Arizona

It has taken me 2 years to write this and share it with the world [at time of submission].

We had been trying for our second child for about 6 months and were starting to get frustrated. In December, we decided to take a break and since we were going away for Christmas, it would be a good time to de-stress. We came home on December 26th. I felt kind of off the whole trip so since I was late, I took a test expecting another disappointing result. To our utter shock, we saw the single most beautiful word you could see on a test result, “Pregnant.” To say we were thrilled would be an extreme understatement.

Mom to Isaac and Porter

November 16, 2011

Springville, Utah

It has been over a year since we lost our twins [at time of writing] and honestly their story doesn’t get any easier to write.

My husband and I planned my pregnancy and were fortunate enough to get pregnant very quickly. I was over the moon excited, but nervous during the first trimester. Once I made it to thirteen weeks, I breathed a huge sigh of relief and started to plan our future with our baby. I had no idea that anything could happen beyond that point. Stillbirth was something that happened to people I didn’t know or at least rarely enough that it wouldn’t affect me.

Mom to Chloë Rutten

July 25, 2011 – July 28, 2011

Uden, Netherlands

My husband and I were so excited when we found out that we were pregnant. My pregnancy was going great, I couldn’t feel more like a woman/mother during this period. All ultrasounds and checks were ok and we were just waiting for our baby to be born. To see what the baby’s gender would be and how it would look like.

But on Monday the 25th of July 2011, when I was 37 weeks pregnant, it goes terribly wrong. That evening, I was brought to the hospital by ambulance because of serious belly ache. I passed out several times. By the time I arrived in the hospital I was in shock. I was rushed to surgery to get the baby out. In surgery they found out that I had an internal bleeding. I lost about 3.5 liters of blood.

Mom to Jaylen and Quincy

Mom to Payton Ann

Born/Passed August 27, 2011

It all started June 17, 2008. I was about six months pregnant with twin boys. I noticed some bleeding which is of course a red flag in pregnancy. I immediately called my doctor who told me to come in so he could give me an examination. I raced over to the office upset and thinking the worst. He started by doing an ultrasound. I watched the screen intently and saw both little guys moving around. “Yes, they are ok,” I thought to myself.

Mom to Carter Alexander Rogers

Born October 25, 2011, Died April 15, 2012

Fountain Inn, South Carolina

It was a Saturday night, and everything was going as usual. My 3-year-old James, my 5-month-old Carter and I had spent the day playing together and sitting around outside. Both my kids went to bed at 8pm, so when 8 rolled around I put James to bed, and Carter did not seem tired, so I brought him in my room, and we watched some TV together.

Mom to Amya Mirica Hope

September 1, 2011 – September 3, 2011

Zurich, Switzerland

After being unsuccessful at becoming pregnant naturally, we conceived in our first round of IVF, after implanting one egg, which subsequently split and graced us with expecting identical twin girls.

During our 19-week scan, we were told that one of our twins showed abnormalities in her kidneys. After our scan, the girls got fed up being called ‘twin 1’ and ‘twin 2’ and we chose Angel cards to give them names in utero. Since then, we referred to them as Passion and Hope – very synchronistic, as twin 2 chose Hope and she was the one dealing with her malformed kidneys.

Three ectopic pregnancies:

January 8, 2009 (9 weeks),

January 8, 2010 (5 weeks),

December 13, 2011 (5w5d with a heartbeat)

Mercersburg, Pennsylvania

My name is Bethany Anderson. My husband and I live in a small rural community in Pennsylvania called Mercersburg. I am twenty-two years-old and my husband, Thomas, is twenty-eight. Thomas and I have been together for almost 5 years and we were married in August of 2011. We have a dog, which is like my child, Chino Taco Anderson. My husband has a son, named Cadon, who is now 6 years old. Although I wish he would be with us every single day, he lives with his mother and we don’t get to see him as often as we’d like. We were told the only way for us to conceive after our extremely difficult losses, was through in-vitro fertilization.   This is our infertility story. [Read more…]

Born still May 24, 2011

My husband and I had only been married for about 6 months, but I just knew I was pregnant. We wanted a baby; we wanted to give my first child (from a previous marriage) a sibling. I took the test, and positive! We were both really excited.

From the beginning there was trouble. After my first appointment I started spotting, so my OB put me on progesterone. I thought everything would be ok after that and was really looking forward to all of my future doctor appointments. We were filed with so much hope. One night I had a dream, well nightmare. I had given birth to my baby, but the nurse had very quickly taken him away and started running down the hall. I screamed, “She’s stealing my baby!” I tried to jump out of the hospital bed but another nurse held me down. She looked at me and said, “She’s not stealing your baby. Your baby is dead.” I woke up in a panic and told my husband about my nightmare. He told me it was just a dream and I was overreacting. I called my mom and a few other people. I needed to hear as many people as I could say everything was going to be ok. [Read more…]

Mom to 1st miscarriage, June 2011 at 6 weeks

Madilyn Jo, miscarried in 2012 at 10 weeks

Olathe, Kansas

In June 2011, we found out I was pregnant. I had an array of mixed emotions. We had a full apartment with my 2 kids, ages 12 and 14 at the time, we had just had a baby in December 2010, and my fiancé’s daughter was living with us, who was pregnant and due in October. Being I just had a baby in December and was still breastfeeding, I hadn’t had a menstrual cycle yet, so my doctor wanted an ultrasound to see how far along I was and to find my due date. We had our first ultrasound and all those mixed emotions went away…there was our baby-to-be, right there on the screen. At that point, I knew we’d be ok; everything would work out. The technician put me about 4 weeks gestation, and really too soon to confirm a due date, so my doctor ordered another ultrasound for two weeks out to look for growth and an approximate due date then. We left and became so excited about our news, and immedately started telling family and friends. [Read more…]

Mom to Silas Theodore

and twins Asher Saul
Lost May 10, 2012 at 19 weeks gestation

Sadie Irene
Lost May 14, 2012 at 20 weeks gestation

Michigan City, Indiana

I was absolutely ecstatic and shocked beyond belief when I found out I was pregnant with Silas. I think it took me 6 pregnancy tests over the course of a weekend to really believe I was finally being blessed with a child at 32 years of age. I had tried to conceive naturally for almost two years and I think I had just given up hope that it was ever going to happen. Needless to say, I was very involved with my prenatal visits and constantly read up on everything I could be expecting and what I should do to ensure a healthy pregnancy.  I don’t think I ever prayed so much in my whole life! But as I got bigger, my pregnancy started to cause me concern. I had a lot of unexplained shooting pains when I would stand up or sneeze, and I sneeze a lot when I’m pregnant! The doctors always reassured me everything was normal and I got extra ultrasounds and examinations to ensure this. By the time Silas was born at 18 1/2 weeks, I think I already had 4 pictures of him proudly displayed around the house and near my bed! [Read more…]

Mom to three angels:
Miscarriage #1 October 28, 2011 at 11 weeks 2 days,

Miscarriage #2 June 25, 2012 at 4 weeks 3 days

Miscarriage #3 August 24, 2012 at 7 weeks 3 days

Rives Junction, Michigan

It was September 7, 2011 and I remember feeling sick, tired, and emotional.  I told my husband I knew I was pregnant, so when I took the test the next morning I was not shocked to see two pink lines staring back at me.  I tested the next several days and watched the line darken, which was very reassuring.  At the time I was 21 years old, a newlywed, and my first pregnancy had gone so smoothly. I was on Cloud 9, and seeing those two beautiful pink lines meant nothing less to me than bringing a baby home from the hospital in eight or nine months. [Read more…]

Mom to Jack

Discovered no heartbeat May 2, 2011 at 9 weeks 2 days
D&C May 5, 2011

Coweta, Oklahoma

In February I had run out of birth control. After a period didn’t start I took several pregnancy tests before starting a new pack. I kept getting negatives. Well, once my period was over a week late I went and saw my doctor to have her test. I didn’t want to start a new pack of birth control without making sure I wasn’t pregnant. After doing a blood draw and waiting for what felt like forever, my doctor called me in. She showed me the screen, and sure enough I was pregnant. My hCG numbers were extremely low, so she asked me to come back in 2 days for a redraw to make sure they were going up. While it wasn’t a planned pregnancy, I was so excited! Two days later I went back in and my numbers had tripled. I drove home that day feeling so blessed and an overwhelming amount of love for my husband and 9-month old son. We took no time announcing our pregnancy to family. [Read more…]

Thing 2
Lost April 16, 2012 at 14 weeks

Melfort, Saskatchewan, Canada

My now-husband, B, works shift work in Alberta. One day in June, 2011, as we were driving down a gravel road, I blurted, “I’m pregnant.” This is the point the truck skidded to a stop and B looked at me. The ‘WTF Did You Say?!??’ look. I explained how I knew and after a dumbfounded silence, he started driving again. We started talking about him leaving a truck up at work, baby furniture, saving money and finding a bigger apartment. We were happy, the baby was flipping around in my belly and we went about our days, not really realizing what was happening in my body. [Read more…]

Mom to Langston Elliot

Miscarried November 15, 2011

West Carrollton, Ohio

I first found out I was five weeks pregnant with Langston exactly one month before we lost him, October 15, 2011. This was my first pregnancy and my husband and I were ecstatic! We had not planned for a child, but we were happy nevertheless. We already had a name picked for him and began to come up with nursery ideas right away. We decided on Classic Pooh whether it was a boy or a girl. Even though Langston passed away before we really knew his gender, I could just tell he was boy by the way I felt. We had mapped out the nursery and told our family and friends early on (we even bought a crib set off eBay). We felt like a miscarriage could never happen to us, because my mom kept telling me how I was born to have babies. I never thought anything of it. [Read more…]
