We found out we were pregnant with our third baby at only two and a half weeks, I was filled with joy! It had taken us a year almost to get pregnant. Each week kept passing and our pregnancy was so perfect. I had lost a lot of weight, but during week 17-19 I put on my first pounds, a total of 6! How exciting that was for me. I also had this beautiful big bump. [Read more...]

I was absolutely ecstatic and shocked beyond belief when I found out I was pregnant with Silas. I think it took me 6 pregnancy tests over the course of a weekend to really believe I was finally being blessed with a child at 32 years of age. I had tried to conceive naturally for almost two years and I think I had just given up hope that it was ever going to happen. Needless to say, I was very involved with my prenatal visits and constantly read up on everything I could be expecting and what I should do to ensure a healthy pregnancy.  I don’t think I ever prayed so much in my whole life! But as I got bigger, my pregnancy started to cause me concern. I had a lot of unexplained shooting pains when I would stand up or sneeze, and I sneeze a lot when I’m pregnant! The doctors always reassured me everything was normal and I got extra ultrasounds and examinations to ensure this. By the time Silas was born at 18 1/2 weeks, I think I already had 4 pictures of him proudly displayed around the house and near my bed! [Read more...]

Whenever I thought about having children, I never imagined anything bad, scary, traumatic. You see so many women have normal, healthy pregnancies where nothing ever goes wrong and it just never occurred to me that I wouldn’t be one of those “normal” women. Never in one million years would I have imagined that I would be where I am today.

I remember finding out I was pregnant for the first time like it was yesterday. I was 20 years old and had been married to my husband for almost one year. My hand was shaking so hard I could barely show him the test results. I was nervous, excited, scared…so many different emotions all at the same time. I had my first ultrasound when I was 9 weeks pregnant. I cried as soon as I saw my little baby and heard his heart beat. It was such an amazing thing to me to see this life that I had created. That moment was something I could never really find the words to explain. [Read more...]

Blighted ovum, February 2011

The pregnancy wasn’t planned at the time (it was a future plan my boyfriend and I had), but finding out in December 2011 that it was happening was the greatest thing ever! We found out in March 2012 we were having a little girl (it was a Wednesday, to be exact), and we already agreed to name her Kennedy Aleecia.

Well, that Friday I continued on with my day like normal, but my body felt funny; there was so much pressure down there, but I overlooked it and just thought, “OK, I’m going to go home lay down go to sleep.” I woke up when my boyfriend got off work around 5am…and I was bleeding. We go to the ER. They tell  I’m getting admitted to maturity. We get upstairs, they look and check and tell me my cervix is open and they’re going to do a surgery and tie (vaginal cerclage). Baby is fine (heart rate and everything)…so they do they surgery. I stay there a few more days, and then I’m home. The next day I need to go back, they said I’m fine and sent me home. [Read more...]

My husband, Dave and I are in our late twenties. We found out we were pregnant in for the first time last year in May 2011, and at 8 weeks along, I miscarried our baby. We gave it time and started trying again. We found out we were pregnant again this past April. So excited, I went to an early ultrasound and found out I was carrying twins! I was so scared of the idea at first, but as time went on I started to get really happy and excited about the two of them. [Read more...]

On March 27th, a week after our son turned 5, we found out we were expecting. We were so happy! We had been trying for 2 years. Our son had been asking for a sibling for awhile, so we were so happy that we could finally give him one! At 7 weeks we had an ultrasound to check for a healthy baby and get an exact due date since we had no idea when we conceived. Well, were we really surprised when we saw 2 little peanuts and 2 little fluttering hearts! Never did we ever expect to naturally get pregnant with twins! And identical twins at that! Baby B was a little smaller but looked good and had a strong heartbeat. I had never been so tired in my life; these little babies were taking everything from me! By 10 weeks I had lost almost 15 pounds! [Read more...]

Mom to Drake

Born and died November 18, 2011

We had given up; all the tests at the fertility clinic showed the only thing preventing us from getting pregnant was my PCOS and that I’d have to lose some weight and keep track of ovulation and it would happen. That was in January 2011; by summer we had decided that we would focus on us, and if a baby was in our cards then it would happen. It was too stressful to go 5 times a week, sometimes an hour away, to have the ultrasounds for ovulation, and expensive! June passed and we had great fun going to the beach, July passed and we drank beers at the local amusement park and rode roller coasters ‘til they closed, August passed and we were looking forward to getting ready for our favorite holiday- Halloween. I missed a period but that was nothing unusual because of my PCOS, so I didn’t think anything of it, I had no morning sickness and I was actually losing weight. September is here and fall is starting to creep in, another month with no period and I felt fine but I decided to test one day just for the heck of it- I peed on the stick and went about my housecleaning and came back 5 minutes later…POSITIVE! Mom to Hope Allison

My boyfriend, Brandon, and I met in kindergarten. We’ve lived in the same neighborhood for as long as I can remember.  The summer before our senior year of high school we started dating seriously.  He quickly became my best friend. We talked about our bright future together, getting married someday and having children in the future.  Being stupid teenagers, we thought the pull-out method was an effective birth control.  We were wrong. In April of our senior year of high school, I found out I was pregnant. Being only 17 and totally dependent on our parents, we were so scared.  However, both of us have awesome sets of parents and after the initial shock, they agreed to help us until we could both finish school. We made an appointment with my OB/GYN immediately.  I had an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy and determine how far along I was.  I was 6 weeks on the day of the ultrasound.  My due date was December 21, 2012.  I was scared to death, but I loved my baby more than anything already.  I started researching everything I could to ensure I had a healthy pregnancy.  I figured I was already one step ahead since I don’t drink or smoke and I never have.  We started to get excited, despite my all-day morning sickness. Here is how my story goes: I am a proud mother of 7 wonderful kids; I have 3 boys and 4 girls. I have always wanted a big family and now I have one. I was recently pregnant with our 8th baby. When I went in to get a checkup, I found out that my baby was gone…the little one never made it through the first trimester. We were heartbroken, our lives turned upside down. In one moment, we were going to have a baby, and the next the baby was gone. I went around feeling bad and like somehow it was my fault. [Read more...]

Born and died April 14, 2012

My husband and I always wanted to be parents. We spent hours talking on the phone early in our relationship discussing how many we wanted, discipline, names. We were blessed with 3 beautiful boys, but they weren’t without their unique and stressful/scary entrances. My last 2 were IC (incompetent cervix) issues. When DH and I talked about #4, we were excited, this would be our first planned pregnancy, determined to make this one much smoother and make it to term again, I had done it once with my oldest and just barely with my second. We tried for just over a year, and felt something wasn’t right. We both got checked out, I was just fine but DH not so much, he had secondary infertility. We couldn’t believe it, it would take IVF with ICSI to have another child. DH did not want to do that but felt terrible because I could get pregnant and his refusal meant I wouldn’t. A few nights later, DH brought up a subject we had talked about in passing years ago, sperm donation. We kept talking and decided to look into it to see if it was something we really wanted to explore. We were delighted to not only have found a donor website that we felt safe about but a donor that lived about an hour away. I got in touch with him and we exchanged emails, talked on the phone and felt we were all compatible. Four cycles/donations later, we found out we were pregnant a few days before Christmas 2011. Best gift ever! :) [Read more...]

I will never forget when I first found out I was pregnant. We had thought we were pregnant the month before, even though we were not trying and had not planned on having kids for a while. We ended up being disappointed when we found out that we were not pregnant. After that we decided we would stop birth control and see what would happen. We did not expect to get pregnant so fast, but one month later, on a Sunday morning, I tested and sure enough, I was pregnant. We were so excited we could not wait to share with everyone. We called our parents and even announced it at church. We had so many hopes and dreams. We began thinking of names, of course I know at one month it is early for that, but we could not help ourselves because we were so excited. It was in late October when found out. Early November all the Christmas stuff was out and we were so excited. We bought bears because we wanted to do bears for the baby and were going to do bears for a nursery even. There were so many hope and dreams pinned on this new life coming into this world. Our first baby. I am sure some of you can relate to this. Life was great so it seemed. One day, a month in, I began to spot. I called the doctor, who had me come right in. They did a sonogram and said baby was either not as far along as we thought or we had lost it and it was no longer developing. My heart sank. I was so upset and shocked. It was the day before our one year anniversary. They sent me home and said time will tell. Of course by that night the bleeding got worse, and when I went to the restroom at a school dace that my husband was DJ at, it happened. I passed a large clot of stuff and knew it was our baby. It was all I could do to hold it together to get through the night. On a side note, it was my choice that my husband went ahead and did the dance; he would have canceled, but I chose not for him to. None the less, God gave us this precious little life…how in the world could we have been ready for this little life to be taken away in just one month? [Read more...]

When we got pregnant we had tried to conceive for a few years and had also added two cycles of IVF to the mix of building our family. To finally be pregnant was a victory and we couldn’t wait to meet our baby. A true miracle it was.

My pregnancy was pretty uneventful, I had just a little nausea, heartburn and general tiredness but otherwise I was feeling good and healthy. From week twelve I started more and more to believe this was real and my fears of something going wrong decreased significantly. [Read more...]

Mom to Jonathan Anthony

Born still January 24, 2012 at 20 weeks’ gestation

Mar Vista, California

It all happened very fast and was so unexpected. I went to a routine doctor appointment on Monday, January 23rd. The prior week I had the flu and had to reschedule my January 18th appointment until the following Monday. When I arrived, my blood pressure was high but they thought it was due to my sickness. During the doctors routine examination she began to check for the baby’s heartbeat. After an agonizing 10 minutes or so she said she needed to send me to the emergency room because she could not find his heartbeat. I was worried, but honestly thought everything was fine. After all, we had just seen our little guy on a 3D ultrasound the week before. I thought he was just hiding. I called my husband (Jimmy) and after delivering my five other children to their Mam’s, we proceeded to the hospital.

Once we arrived at the hospital I was pretty relaxed. After all, we had sent text messages to our church family, personal friends and family members, everyone was praying. Surly God would not let that many people down, and besides I have a miracle baby and know that God can come through even in bleak circumstance. The ultrasound confirmed what seemed unimaginable to me: our sweet baby boy was already in Heaven. In shock, we gathered our family to prepare for Jonathan’s delivery the next day. I felt so alone and lost that night; how was it possible my baby was dead? I could have sworn I felt him kick that night. January 24, 2012 will be etched on my heart and mind forever. Although I had given birth to five babies, my arrival at the hospital on this day was indescribable. I had been anxious and afraid before but this time I was embarking on a journey that would forever change me. A road no mommy would ever want to walk. As I lay awaiting Jonathan Anthony’s arrival, I pondered what would life be like now, how I would it feel to leave the hospital with empty arms and a broken heart. Jimmy never left my side, yet I felt alone. My wonderful mother-in-law and sister-in-law joined me for his birth. They looked through the memory box the hospital had provided us, and gave me some helpful information designed to help me through this time.

I never had such conflicting emotions…while desperately wanting it to be over, I knew the end result of his birth would be the ultimate goodbye.

At around 7:30 I felt the urge to push. When the doctor checked me she said we had to wait until I was fully dilated. She informed us Jonathan’s body could be damaged from the delivery. This is when my tears gave way to panic because this had not crossed my mind, the consequence death had taken on his little body. I begged my husband to pray that Jonathan would be born quickly and entirely whole.
