In June 2011, we found out I was pregnant. I had an array of mixed emotions. We had a full apartment with my 2 kids, ages 12 and 14 at the time, we had just had a baby in December 2010, and my fiancé’s daughter was living with us, who was pregnant and due in October. Being I just had a baby in December and was still breastfeeding, I hadn’t had a menstrual cycle yet, so my doctor wanted an ultrasound to see how far along I was and to find my due date. We had our first ultrasound and all those mixed emotions went away…there was our baby-to-be, right there on the screen. At that point, I knew we’d be ok; everything would work out. The technician put me about 4 weeks gestation, and really too soon to confirm a due date, so my doctor ordered another ultrasound for two weeks out to look for growth and an approximate due date then. Around mid-November 2011, I had started getting very nauseated day by day, and wondered constantly if I was in-fact pregnant with my second child. After about a month of testing and getting nothing but negative pregnancy tests, I finally got a positive. My husband and I were so happy to be having another little one. Around the time I had found out, it was about Christmas, so my primary doctor’s office was closed and getting plowed with tons of snow. On March 27th, a week after our son turned 5, we found out we were expecting. We were so happy! We had been trying for 2 years. Our son had been asking for a sibling for awhile, so we were so happy that we could finally give him one! At 7 weeks we had an ultrasound to check for a healthy baby and get an exact due date since we had no idea when we conceived. Well, were we really surprised when we saw 2 little peanuts and 2 little fluttering hearts! Never did we ever expect to naturally get pregnant with twins! And identical twins at that! Baby B was a little smaller but looked good and had a strong heartbeat. I had never been so tired in my life; these little babies were taking everything from me! My daughter was 4 months old when my husband and I found out we were expecting our third child.  I remember feeling overwhelmed at the thought of another little one to take care of and honestly, a little ashamed that we hadn’t been more careful.  It took me a few weeks to fully embrace my pregnancy, but once I did I was so excited to have another baby.  It felt like we were finally going to be complete.  I had a scheduled ultra sound on April Fool’s Day, 2010.  My husband could not attend; I was there by myself.  I had been chatting with the nurse prior to having the ultrasound and was telling her how different this pregnancy had been and that I was feeling great, with no morning sickness at all.  When I went into the ultrasound, the ultra sound tech got everything ready and started the procedure.  I quickly was able to recognize two little arms and two little legs. It was love at first sight…She didn’t have the picture up more than 45 seconds before she told me she suspected a “demise” and left to get the doctor.  I sat there, all alone, beginning to feel waves of emotions start taking their toll…love for the baby I saw, fear for what the doctor would say, anger at the ultrasound tech, hope that she was wrong…when the doctor came in she confirmed what the tech had thought.  Our baby had passed away…there had indeed been a ”demise”.  His/her short life ended at 10 weeks and 4 days. My husband and I found out January 7, 2012 that we were expecting our first child. We were so excited and happy.

After my first doctors appointment we learned that my gestational sac was empty and our baby had stopped developing very early on. We waited two weeks for another doctor since the first showed no sympathy, not even a simple “sorry”. So after seeing the second doctor who was much kinder, he informed us that the sac was still empty and now starting to collapse. We had been grieving already for the past two weeks and decided to do a d&c the next morning with the new doctor. I would have been one day short of 11 weeks. I miss my baby so much and it hurts when people think that because the sac was empty that there never was a baby, because there was they just didn’t make it past a couple of weeks. I grieve for my first child and dream of him or her playing in a field of daffodils (my favorite flower) in Heaven.

My husband and I always talked about having a baby together one day. We have been together for 7 years, married for almost 4 years. Each of us has a daughter from previous relationships so a baby would blend our families completely.  We had not been planning on getting pregnant but on October 8th I found out, I was pregnant. I was a day late and didn’t think it was even possible since we were using birth control. I decided to take a pregnancy test and it was positive. I took three more tests in amazement, all were positive. I told my husband, who at first was in shock himself. When we told the kids, they were so excited about the new addition to our family. I was beyond thrilled because at 38-years-old I didn’t know if I would get pregnant right away because I had already known that I suffered from hormone imbalance and low progesterone. I called my OB immediately and she placed me on progesterone supplements for the first 12 weeks for my pregnancy. I had morning sickness, fatigue and started to show right so it was hard to keep quiet for long. [Read more...]

I cannot remember a time when I did not dream of being a mother.

In December 2010 my husband and I decided to start our family. I went to the OB in February and had a prenatal checkup before we started actively trying. Everything came back perfect and we were given the green light to start our family. On Mother’s Day 2011 I got my first positive pregnancy test. It was very faint but it was a positive. I was cautiously excited. It was a Sunday and both of my best friends got positive pregnancy tests that same day. I tried so hard to be excited but I didn’t feel well. I was having some spotting, but everyone kept telling me it was normal. Unfortunately, two days later I started bleeding. My doctor saw me that day and did some lab work.
