Nikki

Mother to Raylee Nichole, and three other babies in Heaven.

Baby one lost at 6 weeks in January 2007.

Baby two lost at 7 weeks in April 2007.

Baby three lost at 11 weeks in October 2008.

Raylee Nichole born August 6 2015 at 16 weeks and 5 days

West Lafayette, Indiana

My name is Nikki and I have four beautiful angels in heaven. It all started in 2007 when my period hadn’t come on its regularly scheduled day. Growing up my periods have never been quite “normal”. I was young and didn’t think anything about it. I figured it could have been due to stress or something and surely I would start soon. I began to bleed about 3 weeks after my estimated start day. I just assumed it was my period finally coming. But as the days went on the cramping got pretty intense and I was passing pretty large blood clots. I got nervous and went to the emergency room. Regular protocol is to take a urine pregnancy test. It came back positive. Holy cow, I was pregnant.

Mom to Mercy

Phoenix, AZ

October 22, 2014- April 19, 2015

I was in my 29th week of pregnancy when I found out that Mercy had a hole in her heart.

At first, I was told that it was just a small hole that the hole will close up before she was born. I was sent to a specialist who performed an ultrasound. I will never forget his words as he said, “I have some bad news for you, while it is true that your baby has a hole in her heart, unfortunately this is the kind that doesn’t close up on its own.” I could not stop crying after receiving this news. As the doctor tried to calm me down, he explained to me further that “we see two holes in Mercy’s heart and she is measuring a size smaller than what she should be.” He continued to explain to me “I believe that Mercy may have Down syndrome.” I asked him “what do you mean by, may have Down syndrome? What is Down syndrome? How can we find out for sure?”. He continued on to explain that there was no sure way of knowing for certain if she really has Down syndrome but they can draw my blood and that would tell us if she carries an extra copy of chromosome which is also called Trisomy 21.

Mom to Andi Michelle

June 18- September 7, 2014

Winder, GA

Andi was my second pregnancy and different from my first one, I knew I was pregnant the day I missed my period even if multiple test told me different. Until I had one test that showed a very faint two pink lines, I went to the doctor that day and they confirmed what I had already known.

I was so sick for 13 weeks, things grossed me out completely and while having a one year old at home, I was EXHAUSTED! Since the pregnancies were both so different I swore this time we would be having a boy, but that was wrong when two nurses told us “It’s a girl”. Andi was born at 39 weeks via c section (my choice), she was 8.4lbs and 21 inches long, completely different from Emma (her sister). Andi was 2 ounces bigger but so very petite, she was like a little doll.

July 24th, 2014 is a date I will never forget- it’s the day our lives changed. Andi woke up that morning and was “twitching” and her eyes would flicker, which lasted a few minutes. I knew something wasn’t right.  I had literally just started the job of my dreams; my aunt took Andi to the pediatrician to see what they thought it was. Her pediatrician said it looked like a seizure but it was hard to tell, we weren’t able to get an appointment with a neurologist for A MONTH! Talk about crazy stupid.

Three years after marrying my amazing husband Michael, we decided to start a family. After a few months of unsuccessful trying, I had a feeling there had to be something wrong… I called my mom and luckily she knew a fantastic fertility doctor who could see me right away.

It was a pretty quick diagnosis – it only took one ultrasound to discover I have polycystic ovaries. We tried a couple cycles of Clomid and then opted for surgery to get my ovaries to respond. Two months later I was pregnant with our absolutely gorgeous and wonderful little girl, Halina.

It is 4 o’clock, four hours after we found out that Johnathan Paul is no longer with us. We walk into the hospital, to check in. My family is waiting in the waiting room, and Amanda’s is on their way. Amanda and I check in, and we walk to our room. Amanda climbs on the bed, the place she doesn’t move from for the next few days, while I set our bag down, and start to to ‘move in’.

We became pregnant with Eva in May of 2012, and she was a baby we wanted very much. She was our third baby and third pregnancy. My previous pregnancies had been blessedly uneventful and complication-free, so were completely blindsided when I started bleeding heavily at almost six weeks pregnant. I was devastated, certain I must be having a miscarriage. We went to the ER the next day, and after doing a lot of tests and ultrasounds, they found a strong heartbeat and a growing baby. It was such an unexpected relief! The doctor said that bleeding in early pregnancy is common, usually happens when the placenta implants, and he gave us reason to hope, saying that there was about a 50/50 chance that the bleeding would stop and everything would be fine. On the day I was 30 weeks pregnant, it started as a normal day. I didn’t have to work so I decided to spend the day relaxing and spending time with Derek, the father of my son. When I was laying in bed, I started shaking a lot, but was not in any pain, yet. After the shaking had calmed down, I decided I was going to get up and take a shower. As soon as I stood up, I had this pain in my belly. I really had no idea what was happening but at first it didn’t seem so serious.

In June 2011, I found out I was pregnant and I was beyond excited. I told everyone right away and started planning the nursery. I couldn’t wait to find out what we were having, hoping for a little girl. We started picking out names and could only agree on a girl’s name – Olivia Madilynn. On my husband’s birthday, we found out we were having a little girl. I started making cute things for her and for her room. Even though I wasn’t due ’til February, our families had our baby showers in November. We received so many cute things for this little girl. I couldn’t wait till she was here and she could wear all the cute things but that all changed the week of Thanksgiving when I was 27 weeks.

On September 25th 2012 I had a doctor’s appointment at 2:30 pm to check for Gestational Diabetes. Little did I know I would receive the most heartbreaking news an expecting mother can receive. The nurse called me back and checked my vitals and then handed me the sugar drink and timer and said the doctor would be right in to check on me.

We found out I was pregnant in March of 2000. We were so excited until I started bleeding on Mother’s Day. I went to the Emergency Room and they told me there was nothing they could do- it was a threatened abortion and to make an appointment with my doctor. Heartbroken, they sent me home.

On September 25, 2012 my boyfriend and I found out I was pregnant. We were both happy and anxious. A day before Halloween I had my first ultrasound. I couldn’t believe it- seeing my baby on the screen and thinking, “that’s my little one”. I was 10 weeks. I asked the doctor if we were going to hear the heartbeat and he said no. We went home and showed our family.  I couldn’t explain the happiness I felt inside. I [was] only 20 years old, but I was ready to give up everything for my baby.
