Mom to Kaiden Gray, stillborn November 10, 2005

Miscarriage December 2008 at 4 weeks

and

“Burger baby,” Madilynn, miscarried August 2010 at 6 weeks

Cleveland, Tennessee

My story begins in 2005 at the ripe young age of sixteen. I met a boy who I thought I was going to be with forever. I found out I was pregnant with my son May 10, 2005 and my life as I knew it was about to turn every way but right. His father left me when I was just three months pregnant for another girl…so it was just me and my family. [Read more...]

Mom to Ryan

Born into Heaven July 3, 2008

Roswell, Georgia

Everything was going well with my pregnancy, even though I was of advanced maternal age (i.e. old).  Four months into my pregnancy I was diagnosed with polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid).  I was sent to have a level 2 ultrasound, which I received weekly throughout my pregnancy.  I was lucky to spend up to an hour each week watching my baby grow inside me.  They looked him over head to toe and could only find that he was perfect in every way.  Usually with polyhydramnios the excess fluid can mean that the baby isn’t swallowing or peeing the amniotic fluid, which can be caused by a hole in the esophagus, kidney issues, etc.  They found none of that, so I never worried.  I thought everything was going to be fine and I was meant to have this little boy. What I didn’t know was that because of the excess fluid, cord accidents can happen.  Because of my size, I didn’t feel him move as often as a pregnancy without polyhydramnios.  I had my last level 2 ultrasound on Thursday, June 26th 2008 and as soon as I saw Ryan he had his palm up in the air facing me like he was saying “Hi”.  Again, everything was perfect.  I was 30 1/2 weeks and the only worry I had was making it full term. Born still April 19, 2012 at 27 weeks

Morrison, Tennessee

I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks on November 10, 2011. It was the most exciting day! I took 3 pregnancy tests just make sure I wasn’t imagining it. I surprised my husband when he got home by leaving the pregnancy tests on the bathroom counter. We were both so excited and already making plans for our future with this new chapter of our lives. We told our families we were expecting on Thanksgiving Day, 2 weeks later. I’ll never forget the feeling of telling everyone else, pure joy! [Read more...]

John, born and died April 19, 2012

Wichita, Kansas

I learned I was pregnant after I missed my period January this year. As this being my first pregnancy and we had not been trying, I found myself very anxious, since I didn’t think I was ready. We were having relationship issues and as much as he sounded supportive, I couldn’t help but feel scared. [Read more...]

Mom to Oliver John

Born an angel February 2, 2012

Washington, DC area

The first time I thought about motherhood, I was 8 or 9 years old. Since then, I have always wanted to have a family.

Andy and I got married in 2008 and had the perfect wedding we planned for. We were both attending graduate school and got into our universities of choice. We soon were homeowners in a charming town that was filled with young families. Every corner you looked, there was a dog towed by a new mom, pushing little bundles of joy in the newest strollers on the market. I couldn’t wait for this to be a part of my life. [Read more...]

Mom to angels lost in June 2011 and January 2012

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

In the past year I have been pregnant 5 times.  Each pregnancy has been different, unique in its own way.  Each has changed me and forced me to become a more accepting, understanding and patient person.  May 2, 2011 I found out I was pregnant for the first time.  It was unplanned but a welcomed surprise.  During this pregnancy I was naive – positive, hopeful and unaware of the possibility of loss.  We were thrilled to see the heartbeat and growing baby but weeks later the heartbeat stopped.  Closure for this pregnancy was the easiest of all because I got married 2 weeks later.  My pain was turned to joy and excitement…and so began our life of TTC – ovulation kits, lots of sex and hundreds of pregnancy tests. Amie

Mom to Little Ellie

Miscarried May 11, 2012

Lodi, Wisconsin

I am Amie. I am married to a wonderful man named Jeremy. We have two boys. Jeremy and I have been together for over 14 years. This is my first miscarriage. I am so sad and heartbroken. I know Jeremy is sad, too; I can see the hurt in his eyes as he tries not to show it. He is dealing with it in his own way. Christmas will be so hard. Ellie was due on December 8th. I can’t believe I will never hold her. I knew something wasn’t right a few weeks ago, but I tried to put it out of my mind. I have been waiting for this pregnancy and baby for so long that I tried like hell to ignore my instincts. When I started spotting on the Monday before, I knew I couldn’t ignore the signs anymore. As the bleeding progressed I started to become more scared. I call the OB nurse and she scheduled an ultrasound. I was 12 weeks along. Ellie had no heartbeat. Her gestational sac only measured 5 weeks and 4 days. She was gone. [Read more...]

Mom to Carpenter

Born to Heaven February 19, 2011 at 23 weeks 6 days

Winston-Salem, North Carolina

In 2008, I was at a crossroads.  Continue dating a person everyone (including myself) knew I shouldn’t be with, or be alone in what seemed to be a couples-only world.  A night of crying and drinking with my best friend cemented it for me…  But I have never been a solo kind of person.  So, I vowed that day that I would find my future husband in the next man I met.  So, I signed up for eHarmony, met Mike, went on a date and started talking about marriage–all within about a month of my vow.  11 months later, we were engaged.  11 months after that, married.  And just 5 days after our one year anniversary, our daughter was born.  [Read more...]

There is a blank page in our wedding album. When my husband asked me, years ago, why it was still blank I said, “I want to put our family portrait there, with all our children. That way when we look at the pictures we get to see our happily ever after.”

That page is still blank. [Read more...]

Mom to Quinton Edward and Owen Scott

Born and passed April 27, 2012

Edinburg, Virginia

Wednesday April 25th, 2012 started out like any other day.  I woke up tired and sore from being pregnant.  We had just returned from our babymoon and that weekend we painted the twins’ nursery.  I was so happy.  I got through my work day picked up pizza for dinner and headed home.  My husband and I ate, and I went to the bathroom for one of my many pee breaks, except this time when I wiped there was blood.  I immediately began to panic.  I told my husband I was bleeding; I tried to call my Mom, no answer.  I became more frantic.  I called the doctor on call, but he was in surgery.  My mom called me back to tell me she was on her way. She arrived in seconds and we headed to the hospital.  That was the longest 30 minutes of my life…a thousand scenarios went through my head, but I tried everything to stay positive. [Read more...]

Mom to Sweet Angel Baby

Died on April 18, 2011 due to early miscarriage at 5 weeks

Indian Trail, North Carolina

My husband and I have been together for 11 years and married for 5 of them and we always knew we wanted children.  We officially stopped “NOT” trying in February 2011, and on April 2, 2011 we discovered we were in fact pregnant.  I took 5 pregnancy tests to be sure.  We were definitely preggo. I had already scheduled a doctor’s appointment for that Monday so it seemed everything was just falling into place.  The doctor confirmed we were pregnant and told us she would see us again the later part of May for my first ultrasound.  Sadly, we never made it that far. Mom to Harlow

Born April 2, 2012 at 28 weeks

Pocatello, Idaho

My thoughts and hopes with telling Harlow’s birth story and continuing our journey is that we may be able to help other Angel Mommies feel like they are not alone, like they are “normal” in their thoughts, and like they can make it through. It’s also to help those in our lives feel more connected with Harlow and me, to know how truly real she was, and will continue to be so in our lives. Because we are so far from friends and family, I was unable to share my pregnancy with everyone, besides pictures. And I was deprived of sharing it during our trip home since we fell short on time. So I will share what I can of our time with her, and our memories. And in this time after…I will find my new self, as my life has changed. [Read more...]

Mom to Jedidiah Mathis

Born sleeping July 14, 2011 (due July 22, 2011)

Laguna Beach, California

We fell in love in what seemed an instant. Just months after we married we decided we wanted to expand our family.  A long year and a half later we welcomed Zealan Alexander at the end of 2007.  My whole life revolved around my Z and we loved watching him reach his milestones. We moved from Texas to California when he was just 4 months old to plant our family by the beach.  All the usual adjustments came into play as a young family, but all in all we were living the life…the dream we had envisioned. Mom to Gentry Ann, born and died February 25, 2012
and
Savannah Elizabeth, born and died February 26, 2012

Memphis, Tennessee

I found out I was pregnant on November 9, 2011, after our first attempt at IVF. We found out we were expecting twins on November 28. After almost two years of trying to get pregnant, we were so excited to be expecting two babies. At the first ultrasound it was found that I had a subchorionic hematoma (SCH) next to Baby A, but it was small enough to not be much of a concern. The day after I was released from my fertility doctor, I was in the ER for heavy bleeding. But, an ultrasound showed both babies were doing great. The bleeding was from my SCH. We ended up at the ER again a month later for more bleeding, but again both babies were fine. At that time I was ordered to bed rest for three weeks. After about 3.5 weeks the bleeding quit, for the first time my entire pregnancy (at almost 17 weeks pregnant). [Read more...]

Mom to Mattingly Lynn

Died October 2, 2009

Kansas City, Missouri

I found out very early that I was pregnant, about 4 weeks. I just woke up one morning and had a feeling; took a test and it was positive!  My husband was scared to death when I told him, but we both started planning about the nugget growing inside of me. I had to scare my husband even more by telling him all the jokes I’d made in the past about having two little blonde girls, was more than a dream of mine – my father was a twin as well as my maternal grandfather. We had a high chance of multiples. [Read more...]

Brinlee, D&C January 15, 2010
Matthew, miscarried at home July 25, 2010
Paislee, miscarried at home May 10, 2011

Nunnelly, Tennessee

My first miscarriage was after my first child was born. I didn’t even realize I was pregnant. It took six long weeks of heavy bleeding to get over it. I got pregnant again the very next month. It was a healthy, full term baby boy. That pregnancy was followed by two more healthy, full term pregnancies, a girl and a boy. [Read more...]
