We first found out something was wrong at our 20 week anatomy scan. The sonographer suddenly got very quiet, but I was so busy looking at my beautiful girl that I didn’t really notice. My husband and I had been married for 3 years, and had been trying for 2 years without success. We found out on August 31st via a blood test that we were pregnant. We went back to the doctor on September 12 for the first official sonogram and they were going to try and hear the heartbeat. The doctor heard the heartbeat, all my husband and I heard was white noise, but we could see the little peaks on the monitor when they measured it. We did see the heart flickering and nothing could make us happier. We left that appointment knowing there was a flicker and that we were 6 weeks along. The date we were looking forward to the most was May 8, 2012, our little one’s due date. I was feeling pregnant: nauseous, tired, smelling everything, and overjoyed to be pregnant. I had scheduled an appointment with my OB for October 7, but got a call on September 30th that they needed to move it up due to scheduling conflicts…no big deal, I just adjusted my work schedule and was now going in to hear the heartbeat and see a picture of our growing baby. Brody’s Story
Brody Michael Lukehart was a well planned baby. His father and I had some trouble trying to conceive but then magically two months after we got married, our miracle came. I had stopped wanting to take pregnancy tests because time after time, I was just let down. I could hardly believe it. Instantly, I turned into a mother. I became the healthiest I have ever been. I thought twice about everything I ate, drank, and did. I knew I wanted to stay at home so my life drastically changed. I researched everything I could about breastfeeding and became very proud of the fact that I could nourish my child with God given nutrients. I had his room planned out in my head. Frogs would be the theme. I had consumed myself with planning for Brody’s arrival all while having a strong intuition that I would never actually bring him home. My story begins in March 2010 when my husband and I started trying to conceive. We are in our twenties and like any young, military couple, we wanted to start our family a little earlier than most. His name is Gavin Michael and he was beautiful. He had his mom’s hands, skin tone and hair color and his dad’s everything else. He came into this world weighing 1 pound 7.34 ounces, without a doubt, the tiniest baby we had ever seen, but also the most perfect. He had a iron will and the heart of lion. He was pure and gentle. As we joyfully welcomed our tiny miracle, we soon also welcomed the most unwanted visitor, death. We would never be able to hold our son, not until he was taking his last breaths. We would never be able to dress him, not until he was being dressed for his funeral. We couldn’t cradle him, or kiss his beautifully crafted face until he was in the quiet throws of death. Never would be able to comfort his cries, hear his laughter, feed him or even change a dirty diaper. I think the easiest way to tell my story is to just start from the beginning. My son, Mazio , had just turned one in June of 2010. My husband, Ben , and I had been anxiously awaiting the one year mark to start trying to conceive again. Since I had a csection with my son at 29 weeks due to preeclampsia we were told to wait one full year before trying. I was so excited and anxious to be pregnant again. I was also a bit scared as well since the chance of another preeclamptic pregnancy was now higher. We had only tried for a month when I by chance had a gut feeling to take a test. To my excitement and surprise it was positive right away. I was so thrilled that I couldn’t wait for Ben to get home from work to tell him so I took a picture of the test with my phone and sent it to him with the text “ Guess what?” He was excited and came home smiling. In July 2008 I found out we were pregnant with our 2nd child. It was a surprise but we were excited nonetheless. That excitement quickly ended after only a couple weeks when I started bleeding. I called my husband who was at work..I was crying so hard I’m surprised even understood me. I called my doctor and explained that I was bleeding and worried. She told me if it was brown or light pinkish blood it was most likely old blood and I was fine. However, if it is red blood that means it is fresh and could mean a miscarriage. Mine was bright red.
