In November of 1995, my husband Chris and I found out that we were going to have a baby. We were thrilled with the thought of being parents. On February 21, 1996, we had a routine sonogram. There was concern that day regarding the abnormal size of the baby. The doctors advised us to do a Level II sonogram with a high- risk doctor. We took their advice and had the sonogram on March 12th. That day the high-risk doctor told us that something wasn’t right. The baby was behind schedule and other warning signs were present. They discussed with us the possibility of a heart defect, chromosome abnormality, or some type of genetic disorder. They also discussed the possibility that the baby could die before birth. We were encouraged to do an amniocentesis. We decided against the amnio because of the slight possibility of a miscarriage. All we could do was wait. During this waiting period, we received many prayers, cards, and encouraging words from family and friends. We know that through the prayers of God’s people, we experienced peace at a level we had never known before. [Read more...]

We had been trying to get pregnant for 2 years, so the day we got our first ever positive pregnancy test was the most exciting and happiest of my life. But I was also cautious; I was terrified I was going to miscarry, and so we tried not to tell people for a while. But at 8 weeks we had a scan, and our baby was fine, measuring on target with a good heart rate, so we plucked up the courage to announce the pregnancy. This month marks the 3 year anniversary of when my husband and I started “trying” to conceive. It didn’t always feel like trying because by March of 09 I began charting and shortly after I identified a problem–I wasn’t ovulating. After some time, a visit to a few doctors, I discovered that I had hyperprolactinemia and after a 6 month hold-out from my doctor, finally he agreed to remove the medication that was causing it. I ovulated 2 weeks later! Then in July 2010, on my mother’s birthday and week before mine, I got a positive pregnancy test. It was light, but I was testing quite early. The digital confirmed it. I was so excited I was hyperventilating at first. Then I sent a picture to my husband. The due date was about 2-3 days before his birthday. We had nicknamed our little one “monkey” because it was all the rage in baby items at the time. [Read more...]

It was my second child.

I delivered a beautiful healthy girl with no complications. I was a bit concerned that because of being of advanced age I might had difficulties but with my little girl it proved that there is nothing wrong about getting pregnant after 35. A year after we decided to try for our second child. I was very confident that nothing would go wrong as it was with my first. I found out very “late” that I was an expecting Mommy…I conceived while on birth control pills, and my partner & I used condoms as well…..so needless to say, “surprised” didn’t quite cover the emotion I felt when I discovered I was pregnant! I was already almost six months into my pregnancy, with only 8 pounds of weight gain, no skipped periods, no nausea, NO signs what-so-ever. At any rate, once I recovered from the shock of “Wow, how did this happen?!?!”, I was elated! I couldn’t wait to see my Little Man, hold him in my arms, and watch him grow. Her story actually began before Friday January 23, 2004 but, that is when I discovered thanks to two little pink lines that I was expecting my first baby, I was 21-years-old… Of course like a good deal of mommies I pictured a Sweet, Beautiful, Baby Girl and visions of cute pink dresses and frilly outfits. My pregnancy was perfect; my only problem was awesome “morning” sickness. I couldn’t wait to find out what I was having (although I suspected my baby was a girl), my suspicions were confirmed on April 7th, her father was happy and excited but also a little sad because just 3 months earlier he was suddenly prevented from seeing his then 23-month-old son by the mother. March 9, 2011 was one of the happiest days of my life.  After eight months of being off of the pill, I had a positive pregnancy test.  Later I found out I was exactly five weeks on that day.  This was the first pregnancy for my husband and I.  We were not really trying, but we were not preventing… we were just going with the flow. We were so excited to begin this new chapter in our lives.  I consulted my OBGYN the following week to confirm my pregnancy and schedule my first appointment.  We couldn’t wait.  At ten weeks we went for our first visit and ultrasound.  To everyone’s surprise, we saw not one, but two little peanuts on the screen.  We couldn’t believe it, and neither could our family.  We were totally beside ourselves with joy.  Two tiny miracles, on our first pregnancy, and without fertility help.
