Mom to Savannah Grace Filer

July 2nd, 1996 – July 2nd, 1996

In November of 1995, my husband Chris and I found out that we were going to have a baby. We were thrilled with the thought of being parents. On February 21, 1996, we had a routine sonogram. There was concern that day regarding the abnormal size of the baby. The doctors advised us to do a Level II sonogram with a high- risk doctor. We took their advice and had the sonogram on March 12th. That day the high-risk doctor told us that something wasn’t right. The baby was behind schedule and other warning signs were present. They discussed with us the possibility of a heart defect, chromosome abnormality, or some type of genetic disorder. They also discussed the possibility that the baby could die before birth. We were encouraged to do an amniocentesis. We decided against the amnio because of the slight possibility of a miscarriage. All we could do was wait. During this waiting period, we received many prayers, cards, and encouraging words from family and friends. We know that through the prayers of God’s people, we experienced peace at a level we had never known before. [Read more…]

Mom to Gideon Raymond Matthew

March 30th, 2011 – April 16th, 2011

Conwy, United Kingdom

Gideon, my first child, a tiny warrior, died in the special care baby unit at only 17 days old. This is his story.

We had been trying to get pregnant for 2 years, so the day we got our first ever positive pregnancy test was the most exciting and happiest of my life. But I was also cautious; I was terrified I was going to miscarry, and so we tried not to tell people for a while. But at 8 weeks we had a scan, and our baby was fine, measuring on target with a good heart rate, so we plucked up the courage to announce the pregnancy. Everyone was so happy for us, having assumed we’d need fertility treatment to get pregnant. [Read more…]

Positive Pregnancy Test July 17th, 2010

Miscarriage Confirmed July 28th, 2010

Temple, Texas

This month marks the 3 year anniversary of when my husband and I started “trying” to conceive. It didn’t always feel like trying because by March of 09 I began charting and shortly after I identified a problem–I wasn’t ovulating. After some time, a visit to a few doctors, I discovered that I had hyperprolactinemia and after a 6 month hold-out from my doctor, finally he agreed to remove the medication that was causing it. I ovulated 2 weeks later! Then in July 2010, on my mother’s birthday and week before mine, I got a positive pregnancy test. It was light, but I was testing quite early. The digital confirmed it. I was so excited I was hyperventilating at first. Then I sent a picture to my husband. The due date was about 2-3 days before his birthday. We had nicknamed our little one “monkey” because it was all the rage in baby items at the time. [Read more…]

Mom to Emily Grace

October 6th, 2010

Raleigh, North Carolina

It was my second child.

My husband and I got married and decided shortly after to start a family. I got pregnant right away and had a wonderful uneventful pregnancy. I delivered a beautiful healthy girl with no complications. I was a bit concerned that because of being of advanced age I might had difficulties but with my little girl it proved that there is nothing wrong about getting pregnant after 35. A year after we decided to try for our second child. I was very confident that nothing would go wrong as it was with my first. I knew of mothers that lost their babies and I knew it could happen but it was more like thinking driving and having a car accident. [Read more…]

Early Miscarriage April 2010

Cooper Michael

August 19th, 2011 – August 28th, 2011

Wichita, Kansas

My husband, Michael, and I had been married for a little less than a year when decided wanted to start our family.  We decided we would let nature take its own course, we weren’t ‘exactly’ trying but we weren’t preventing either.  When it happened it would happened. We were extremely surprised to get a positive pregnancy test the next month. We were so excited; we called everyone we knew to tell them the exciting news! Less than a month later we were devastated to discover that the baby had never developed. It was extremely heartbreaking to have to tell everyone that we had lost our baby. [Read more…]

First Loss December 2010

Second Loss July 2011

Third Loss September 2011

Sydney, Australia

My Husband and I met very early in life and wasted no time starting a life together, we bought our first home when I was 18 and got married a year later in a beautiful Summer Wedding witnessed by 200 friends and Family. The cluckiness quickly set in for me soon after the wedding. A little over a year later we found ourselves stepping up to be full time foster carers of a relatives children. Over the year they were with us we learnt how much love, joy and understanding children can bring to your life, even under difficult circumstances. My Husband and I knew we were ready to have a child of our own and were excited for what was to come. [Read more…]

Robinson, Illinois

My husband Larry and I were married on July 10th, 2010. We took our honeymoon in early August, and the day we got back I stopped taking the pill. I had been taking it for 4 years. On February 28th, 2011, I found out I was pregnant! I was so excited, and kind of suprised it only took about 6 months. My husband was thrilled as well, and he was just convinced it was a boy! We told everyone right away, and everyone was so happy. I have a niece that will be 1 in October, and that was exciting because I was due early November, they would only be a year apart! I had a feeling from the get go that I was having a boy, but I told myself it could be a girl (I would have been happy either way!). [Read more…]

Mom to Lucas Alexander

Born Still on October 18th, 2010

Old Fields, West Virginia

I found out very “late” that I was an expecting Mommy…I conceived while on birth control pills, and my partner & I used condoms as well… needless to say, “surprised” didn’t quite cover the emotion I felt when I discovered I was pregnant! I was already almost six months into my pregnancy, with only 8 pounds of weight gain, no skipped periods, no nausea, NO signs what-so-ever. At any rate, once I recovered from the shock of “Wow, how did this happen?!?!”, I was elated! I couldn’t wait to see my Little Man, hold him in my arms, and watch him grow. All of my neonatal appointments went smoothly, his heartbeat was always strong. Clockwork. [Read more…]

Mom to Kylee Nicole

Born June 18th, 2004 at 33 weeks 4 days

Died February 1st, 2005

Cleveland, Ohio

Her story actually began before Friday January 23, 2004 but, that is when I discovered thanks to two little pink lines that I was expecting my first baby, I was 21-years-old… Of course like a good deal of mommies I pictured a Sweet, Beautiful, Baby Girl and visions of cute pink dresses and frilly outfits. My pregnancy was perfect; my only problem was awesome “morning” sickness. I couldn’t wait to find out what I was having (although I suspected my baby was a girl), my suspicions were confirmed on April 7th, her father was happy and excited but also a little sad because just 3 months earlier he was suddenly prevented from seeing his then 23-month-old son by the mother. Mom to Garrett

Stillborn July 31st, 2004

Eden Prairie, Minnesota

My baby angel Garrett was stillborn July 31, 2004 at 38 weeks.  I had a perfect pregnancy and had no reason to suspect anything would go wrong.  I was surprised to wake up one morning at 2:30am with a horrible feeling that something was wrong.  It wasn’t until a few hours later that I realized I wasn’t feeling my baby move.  Despite that, I was completely blindsided when the doctor told me my son’s heart had stopped beating.  After delivery, we learned that Garrett had died from an umbilical cord accident.  [Read more…]

Filled with joy and excitement the first 8 weeks of the pregnancy everything seemed to be going fine, but on June 1st, 2011 everything changed. It was a day spent in the ER, a day spent in tears and a day that crushed our spirits. That evening we said goodbye to baby Rae as I suffered a natural miscarriage. [Read more…]

and Baby Angel 2 – Lost at 10 weeks

August 3rd, 2011

Addison, Texas

I married the love of my life on May 18th 2007. From the first day I met him I know I was going to marry him. We married young– me being 19 and him 21. We knew we wanted kids and in Feb of 2008 we decided to start trying.  After many months and negative pregnancy tests, because of course every month I thought I was pregnant… we started to get concerned.  After a year of TTC and nothing went to see my OB/GYN and May of 2009 was diagnosed with PCOS ( polycystic ovarian syndrome)  Instead of taking Metformin we decided to try the natural way first. I’m not a huge fan of perscription drugs. [Read more…]

Mom to Daniel Thomas

July 19th, 2011

Wyoming, Michigan

I was 14 weeks pregnant driving home from my parents’ house with my two year old daughter, when I was rear ended. It was really just a “bump”, I had thought at the time. Everyone was ok, and we left the scene unharmed. I called my OB to let them know what happened, and asked if they thought I should be seen. The doctor on call, who was not my personal doctor, but a partner said, “I would definitely think you should come in and be sure everything is ok. After all, wouldn’t you feel terrible if you had a miscarriage in a week?” [Read more…]

Mom to angel baby Emily Rose

Early Miscarriage, August 17th, 2011

Syracuse, New York

I am Monica.  I’m 28 and had been on the pill for about 12-ish years.  I recently married Kevin, the love of my life, on May 28 and I stopped taking the pill as soon as we came back from our honeymoon.  We had talked about having children for a long time and were anxious to start our family.  I was really surprised (that it happened so fast) and super excited to see what I thought was a positive pregnancy test on 8/10/11… I was so nervous that I bought a digital test on 8/11/11… “PREGNANT”… there was no questioning that… and I was thrilled!  My husband was so excited! Mom to Charlie

Died June 14th, 2003

Dunwoody, Georgia

Charlie’s Story

On May 11, 2003, I was the maid of honor at my sister’s wedding. It was hot, I was dressed in purple (and resembled a lilac Barney), had cankles the size of my thighs and was downright miserable. It was a very happy day but I was a painfully pregnant woman who was ready for it to be over. But I was only 34 weeks pregnant (or close to it). [Read more…]

Mom to Cohan and Gavin

June 11th, 2011

Wilmington, North Carolina

March 9, 2011 was one of the happiest days of my life.  After eight months of being off of the pill, I had a positive pregnancy test.  Later I found out I was exactly five weeks on that day.  This was the first pregnancy for my husband and I.  We were not really trying, but we were not preventing… we were just going with the flow. We were so excited to begin this new chapter in our lives.  I consulted my OBGYN the following week to confirm my pregnancy and schedule my first appointment.  We couldn’t wait.  At ten weeks we went for our first visit and ultrasound.  To everyone’s surprise, we saw not one, but two little peanuts on the screen.  We couldn’t believe it, and neither could our family.  We were totally beside ourselves with joy.  Two tiny miracles, on our first pregnancy, and without fertility help.
